RADIO SHOULD LOOK INTO FM EXTRA!

I've got a great suggestion-radio stations on the FM band should look at the FMeXtra scheme, which offers HD radio with existing facilities, instead of using sidebars. Also there's no royalty fees involved. More information can be obtained by clicking this link:

It just might work!

I would like to know how well the system actually performs, such as how the system works indoors and how far the digital signal can be received under varying conditions. If FMExtra is really viable, perhaps receiver manufacturers could incorporate Ibiquity and FMExtra into the same chip.

We've been up this road before. Since the FMeXtra folks took a poison pill form Ibiquity, I doubt it will ever happen.

That said, I had the chance to try it on a 74 watt LPFM. The digital signal was easily receivable anywhere the analog signal went. In some cases, the digital punched through when the analog wasn't really listenable. I was impressed. At the time, they wanted about $8000 for the whole thing which was just a Dell computer with a very unusual "sound card" and their software.

I took about 10-15 minutes to set up and connect to one of the SCA inputs on the transmitter. A few minutes fiddling with software, and it was on the air. There wasn't much to not like.

Windows is the dominate operating system. With all patches, revisions and crashes It doubtful anyone thinks Microsoft is the better system.
