Radio Show on TV

The "Make Believe Rainbow Room" is coming back, but not on radio, but rather TV.
Insiders know it was one of the most popular shows in the history of Hazleton radio, hosted by local legend Leo Valovich. The Hazleton Route 81 Radio station fired Valovich a few weeks ago and WYLN TV, a local low power telecaster, with huge cable penetration, grabbed him almost instantly. It will be neat to see (or hear) how the show is translated to TV. It also appears that WLYN now has recruited the cream of the Hazleton area broadcast talent, including Bill Washko, Pat Ward, LA Tarone, and Valovich. They also have all the local sports. By the way, I actually listened to the Hazleton station this past week, and it sounds voiced-tracked, with few local commercials and a lot of dead air. There is also a sing-song sounding gal, called Mandy, in the afternoon. Wazzup?

It seems you can write, but you apparently need to complete at least a 6th grade remedial reading course. In the Standard-Speaker article written by
L.A. Tarone on Leo Valovich's departure from WAZL, Leo said in his own words that he was NOT fired, but rather offered several different options to continue on WAZL including doing the morning show, and doing the Rainbow Room on Saturday nights. He went on to say that this was HIS own choice to leave the station. So if you're going to write, at least get the facts correct. As far as WYLN collecting the "cream"..since WYLN gets it's butt kicked all over the sidewalk by Local-13 which actually HAS an audience for it's programming, it is possible that instead of trying to compete with Local-13, Barry just decided to give up TV and go into the healthcare field by opening the "Old Disc Jockeys Home".
Cheers.

I think both 13 and WLYN are the best kept secrets in local
broadcasting. They both are public service oriented (the
Telethon last week on WLYN was great) and fill a void that
mega radio and TV giants created. I hope my cable provider
finds a slot for the show to be seen in Wilkes Barre to join
my lineup of Your Life, Chef Lou and 13's scholastic sports.

You are right, Yonk! Hazleton is unique with the presence of the two TV outfits. Channel 13 is a lease access deal with service electric cable. They have about 18,000 subscribers. WYLN is actually a low power TV station with six or seven off-air signals in the region. It is also carried on many cable systems, and is seen in Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre, Berwick, Schuylkill County, Danville, Williamsport and Weatherly and the Poconos. WYLN is more regional than local 13, obviously because of its much bigger reach. Competition is always a good thing.

WYLN is owned by a family of cable TV pioneers, named Gans. They are very much community-oriented, philantropists, who have generously donated to many charitable causes over the years. Just this past weekend the Cancer telethon on WYLN raised over $110,000. How was this done if they don't have an audience? Any disparaging comments from Downtown Hazleton relative to this family of community broadcasters and child like insults to the former radio people who are employed there is pretty sad. I certainly hope the previous poster is not associated with Mr. Lesante, who we would hope would not be part of this kind of trash-mouthing.

Service Electric channel 21. 5pm news, Chef Lou on Monday,
Your Life on Tuesdays at 530pm. Telethon was on all weekend.

I think that's the King's College in-house bulletin board channel. KCTV is the in-house tv channel on 04.
______________

That may be, but I see those shows on 21. Have
the VCR set every Mon and Tuesday.

There's a private home across the street from my new digs, actual rent-paying residents unknown but a stream of rugby players/fans go in and out at night and weekends. I can always grab a six-pack, bang on the door, act drunk and get entrance. I can watch Ch21. They won't know.
______________

Hah! Sounds like my neighborhood with some of King's
finest gridiron greats. A 6 pack will get you more than
channel 21!!!

20'ish adults with their 20'ish friends (M and F). Probably don't watch channel 21. I guess they have 29, 30, 31 and maybe 69.
______________

Sniff..sob...cry...You're killin' me!! I stand by what I said. WYLN is an old disc jockey's home for otherwise unemployable people, who gets it's butt kicked by Local-13. BTW...truth isn't trash-mouthing!!

Bill Washko, Doug Farley, Pat Ward, Leo Valovich...Unemployable?
Thats a particularly cruel comment for some fine broadcasters and indivduals, who are also well known in the community for their work for charity, etc.
Why spew such venom?

You just made up your own list. I never said WHICH ones were unemployable.
It said it is a HOME for the otherwise unemployable. You came up with the list.
Besides, I'm a mean, bitter, angry man. Somebody's gotta be.
