Radio Software

Long time reader, first time poster!

What is the best radio automation software programs out there? I need something on the cheaper side but easy to use. I am training teens and young-adults. Do you know what the high schools use too?

I would love to hear your suggestions. I have looked at NexGen101 from Prophet.

Next Gen is AWESOME. You can also check into Protoge` From dMarc [ http://ccc-dcs.com ]

We use NexGen 101 at WEEM (Pendleton Heights HS). It's easy to understand on many different levels, so students from first timers to veterans can work with the program. I highly recommend it.

After looking at SS32 from Scott (at Ben Davis HS), I wouldn't recommend it for a high school enviroment--sometimes it is a bad thing to have too many bells and whistles.

Ive seen high schools use winamp (that's sad I know but most cant budget something more than that)

If your looking at going with a real automation system, check out Prophet's Nexgen101, BSI's Simian, those are two of the lower cost automation systems that are also used in AM and FM broadcasting.

Personally I like NG101 myself. It's stable and is very easy to work with... plus Clear Channel and a few of the other major broadcasters use Nexgen 2 (the bigger brother to Nexgen101) so the students would have a leg up if they go into commerical radio later.

I reccomend Simian from BSI... VERY affordable and very easy to use. Lots of neat bells and whistles.. but dont have to use them. Easy for any computer literate person to pick up...

Lenks,

Thanks for the info (thanks to all too).

What else do you use on your online radio station? I have looked at Tascam 1082 and 4 Shure mics. I have a pro CD player and some other software programs.

Do I need anything else?

Raduga Radio Automation Software is by far the easiest to learn and use. Many Schools using it. Buy out only $649. Tremendous support. http://www.raduga.net<P ID="signature">______________

We use the touch screen in Memphis...works great. Scott is about the most reliable I've ever worked with.

While I would agree that BSI/Simian can be affordable and easy, I have found it to be rather cranky, and troublesome if not treated EXACTLY according to book.
We use it on 4 different radio stations, and it has done some pretty strange things over time. I would say that the WaveCart feature would be a good basic unit to train folks on.

That's great to hear. It's been years since the sneeze incident. I'm sure they have worked out the bugs. I am a Scott supporter, too. Works great.

LOL, I'm sure it wasn't all that funny at the time it happened, but you have the making of a great radio story there. :)

I agree with Raduga, it's great and cheaper than that if you know where to look, one program I don't like is ProRadio by BTSG that thing is a PITA, on so many levels!!!!
