Radio Sound Quality in Charlotte

I have noticed that the sound quality of several area Charlotte stations is not what it should be. Nothing against them specifically, but since sound is the primary reason of radio, I would think it would be given more thought. There may be others that fall short but at least they are not as noticeable on my set of radios.
Some examples of note in Charlotte
92.7 - do they still use 8 Track tapes for music? The music always sounds like it was recorded on low quality tapes.
95.7 - their processing makes the music somewhat flatter & less lively than other stations. It is ok, just a little flat. Is this actually more accurate?
99.7 - they over modulate or distort during loud passages badly. Do they use too low of a bitrate compression for their music? It makes me turn it off.
106.5 - they overly compress their music to the point where there are no soft and loud passages, so hardly any dynamics.
107.9 - I know they are not music primarily, but their weekend music at times sounds like they use the original cassette tapes. Very low quality.

Anyone else notice these or more?

Your absolutely right musiclover dude. Every FM music station in town is over processed, whether it be compression, limiting or clipping. But do you think the average Joe on the street really notices? Hell, he’s probably listening to his MP3 player with tunes compressed at 128kbps or less! Which one sounds crappier?

:-\

When you think about it, all the music that comes from the music capitals of the world sounds like crap. Over processed and compressed like crazy! I've noticed a lot of the country music from Nashville is like that. Carrie Underwood is really over done.

Seriously? I was in Charlotte in July, and every station that I listened to (102.9, 104.7, 106.1, 96.9, and 103.7) sounded GREAT to me. Personally, I prefer Lite's processing to K's and WSOC's to the Kat's, but that's just me. I'm comparing the stations to what I hear on a daily basis in Central New Jersey (which receives the NYC stations).

I invite you to come up to New York City and listen to the same music you listen to in Charlotte on our stations (except country, as NYC lacks any country stations). You want to hear overprocessed radio? Come to Market #1. When you get back to Charlotte, your ears will thank you tremendously.

In response to the OP, I didn't really listen to the stations you mention in particular (except The Fox and The Ride for a brief period of time), so I can't really comment on 92.7, The End, or the Link. However, I did catch The Ride, and I agree that it is somewhat flat compared to the other stations in the market.
