Radio Spider Macro Help

Can anyone offer advice on Radio Spider Macros?

I am downloading BCS_April6and72013_H1S1, etc...

I'd like to autorename that to BCSH1S1, taking the text left and right of the underscore...

Doable?

I know one thing about the Spider. Their support isn't too good. Hopefully someone can help you to get it to do what you want. We actually just gave up after fighting with trying to get help, etc. around here and went with another product.

I had the same experience...

Well,

I emailed support to tell me how. Told them if they provided detailed instructions, I would purchase the program.

If I can get details on one, I will learn enough from that to do the rest. Does appear that this could be a great time saver for me if it works right.

I believe the company has new ownership, so I hope you find them to be more responsive than the previous owner who also brought you Digital Jukebox.

I don't have one open in front of me, but as I remember, if you put the filename you want (including extension, it will convert) in the output path, then you should get what you want.

I've found it only works well if the file you're downloading uses the same filename each day/week. If they change each week, then manual downloads are the way to go. I use it to d/l from AccuWeather, and they use the same three filenames each day for each daypart. Works great for that.

Bill981 is right, you should be able to save it to the simpler file name with no problem. We use it to download several news, weather, financials, and sports programs each day and save them to a cart number in their respective folders where the automation can grab them.

For files from the sender with different file names each day that increment with the day, that too is pretty easy once you get the hang of their macros. All of our downloads do that, and spider handles them without any problems for going on 3 years now. However the filename you gave as an example has the word "and" and two dates in it. THAT will be a problem! Dont think you can macro that mess, might need to manually download.

Re support, yes it was sketchy at best from the DJB guy and pretty slow with the new bunch. For anybody using the older v 10.1.1 I stongly suggest you NOT upgrade to v 12.7. There is a bug that they admit they currently have no fix for. Other than some different screen graphics, and of the course the bug, I didnt see any significant changes in v 12.7, wish I had never upgraded.

There support basically said... 'Keep reading the help until you figure it out.'

It's a shame they are that way. I did figure it out though, so I may keep it. It grabbed all but one of my shows this weekend.

Tee-hee. Maybe they are closer to being honest about that than some other software publishers. You and I were in a thread together recently on how to squeeze something out of Adobe Audition. Adobe may not say it, but I find their documentation and help files seem to work on the principle: "Keep reading, keep throwing darts, and hopefully you can figure it out... sooner or later."

Sounds like at least you are dealing with a software that gives you a macro or programming language. So many don't! Which brings us back to Audition: They give us automated automation, but virtually NO truly manually programmable options.
