radio staffed 24/7

yesterday, i read somewhere radio stations will have to be fully staffed 24 hours a day 7 seven a week.
by a new fcc regulation. i think that would be great, i guess.

It's not an official rule. They're just seeking comment on it. Personally, I don't think people will see a return to the glory days of all stations having jocks 24/7. Most large clusters already have someone who amounts to little more than a trained monkey in the building at all times monitoring the stations. So, they're already compliant.

Man I got excited for a minute. The good old days when the evil corporations didnt voice track and actually had a jock in the studio at all times. Do you guys know of any stations in San Antonio that still do that?

Clear Channel and Cox have, or at least used to have, someone there at all times. I don't know if that person was a jock at Clear Channel, though, and I'm not sure about the other clusters.

For many of us who grew up in smaller towns the major market all-night personalities skipping across the sky showed us what big time radio could be. Nationally syndicated shows like ''Coast to Coast AM'' now fill those valuable timeslots.

Do kids still dream of being on the radio when they hear those network shows?

Any kids listening to ''Coast to Coast AM'' during some of the creepier segments probably sleep with the lights on!

Overnight syndication is not a recent innovation. I remember listening to Larry King on the Mutual Broadcasting System, via my hometown AMer late at night when I was in high school a couple of decades ago.

It's not happening so much in Texas yet, but nationally, live sports are moving off of the big AM signals now. I used to fall asleep listening to out of town baseball games. I feel sorry for kids in the midwest not getting to listen to the Cardinals on KMOX now.

It's also harder to pick up distant signals now thanks to the nighttime IBOC hash, so there's less reason to listen to AM overnight now. I fall asleep now to one of the 100+ channels on my XM radio.

Mhhhh, heck, even I get the creeps when my radio stops at Coast to Coast. ;D
"UFO's"
"Ghosts"
"Weird Sky lights"
"End of the World"

But not to worry about kids listening in at night, I'm pretty shure they are either listening to their iPods or playing with their Playstation Portables! We are the last generation that was fascinated by AM and its mysteries! Good times :'(
