Re: Radio Stalkers?
Headphones: that was a crreeepppy story. Erika's story is just as creepy and disturbing.
I never dealt with any stalkers during my time in radio in Delaware, but we did have a few weirdos that would call the station all the time. We had one guy we called Fast Eddie. When I was stuck on weekend overnights, Eddie would always call and want to talk with the weekend morning sports anchor. The said sports anchor would take his calls. Eddie was a nice fellow (I actually met him a few times at local professional wrestling events), but sadly passed away a few years ago. Eddie didn't have both oars in the water, so to speak.
We had another guy named Allen who would always call the station, asking if the local minor league baseball team won their game that night. Allen wasn't playing with a full deck either, but he was always pleasant with me on the phone. He would ask very nicely what he wanted to know, and would hang up. Sometimes, he would discuss the goings-on with local baseball and other sports. He seemed to be an avid sports fan.
My former station has a Weatherline phone number where people can call and get the weather forecasts (similar to what WPRI-TV currently has). While I was there, we had a blind guy named Pat who would call the Weatherline every hour to get the current temperature and so forth. If the Weatherline hadn't been updated, he would call the station and complain, then ask for the weather stats. He would roll tape on the Weatherline forecasts for his own archiving purposes. He admitted he had tapes from several years ago, with anchors voices on them, who have long since left the station. He was a pest sometimes, but always a nice fellow. He's another listener who I met once, while eating dinner at a local restaurant. I saw him walk in, and heard his voice. I immediately knew it was him. I went up to say hello, and he immediately recognized my voice. He was very pleasant.
