Radio Station Selling Vinyl Collection

The stuff takes up space and with all the computerization and automation, who needs it? Hopefully, they have digitized it for possible "on air" use in the future.

I saw this post and it makes me sad. I remember the pride you had in showing me your collection and to hear that you are willing to sell it off "locally" is a true sacrifice. I know keeping the station alive is your goal, but there have to be other ways to fund the daily operation. I think you're giving up too much by using yur colection for a fundraiser. I'm sure you've put a lot of thought into this and it was a very hard decision to come to. Please tell me you have at least 3 digital backups of all the audio! I know we have had "differences of opinion" in the past, If there's anything I can do to help, please get a hold of me....you know how to.

Good News...other sources have told me that this is a collection that was donated by a listener and NOT PBR's personal collection....whew!. I'm told most of the albums are in near mint condition, so check out the sale and help Ultimate Oldies stay on the air!

BTW, can I buy McCartney's "Give Ireland Back to the Irish"?
I just heard this last week on Casey Kasem's AT40 broadcast for some time in 1972. Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond were back-to-back in the countdown with "Rockin' Robin" and "Puppy Love." They just don't make them like that anymore!

You have it right. These are mostly records donated by listeners. One in particular gave us a collection put together over several decades. I've thrown in some 45s and LPs excess to my own collection. What is amazing is the condition of all these records.

We are purchasing a new AudioArts R55 console, as the old Collins is falling apart. This sale will help cover that major expense.

the R55 is a good console. I have installed three in the last six months. It's worth the sacrifice. Hope you get enough money for the prewired harness that you can get with it. It's worth the extra cost.

Happy to hear that the vinyl sale doesn't consist of the station's personal library.
I am a firm believer that Top 40 oldies sounded best on vinyl...and some 45s are the original released recordings...not remixed for CD release...just ask Joe Madigan up at WJCU!

What will be done with the old Collins console? Would like to see it for myself...hoping it may be donated to another area station that may be intersted in using it.

No truer words were ever spoken.

We decided to offer up to 25% discount for those who buy in quantity. That will bring the price of LPs down to $3 and 45s down to $1.50.

Better to let the record collectors take everything than to have stuff left over.

We've gotten several phone calls and emails asking for directions to the record sale.

A map is now posted at www.daytonoldies.com

Kind of interesting in that the announcement has spurred listeners to bring in more records for us to sell. We just received about 500 classic country LPs - mainly 60s and 70s. Something for everybody, as the other 7,000 records are all R&R.

Sounds like you may have found a new way to help fund the station, given that money donations are harder to come by these days. How about a Rock and Roll Gargae Sale. I'm sure if you solicit it right, lots of people would have cool things to donate to help keep Ultimate Oldies up and running. I know, it's just the old Promotions Director in me coming out.

Today, two more listeners offered to bring up records on Sunday to add to the sale. It's getting bigger!

Depending on how this sale turns out, we may have one periodically and do more to encourage listeners to bring in vinyl. I'm amazed at how many people have really nice records stashed away, yet have nothing to play them on!

I am not about to give up my Technics SL-1200MK2 turntable!

We haven't pushed for gifts of CDs, but are accumulating those too as listener donations. So CDs could be added to the list of things for listeners to donate. Some people are dumping all their vinyl & CDs in favor of computer-played MP3s.

We plan to have a sign up list for those who show up this weekend. They will be directly notified of future sales; and maybe as "regular customers" offered a chance to get early entry at the next sale. Just a thought.....
