The owner of KCAA seems to think that Imus will be back, and I"m inclined to agree with him. Whether you were a fan of his show or not, you cannot deny that he had a loyal "cult following" and many, if not all, of those listenres will be demanding that he be returned to the airwaves. Whether Shaprton and company like it, or not. Several have speculated that he will be offered a gig with either Sirius or XM, which I suppose is possible. However, let us assume that another NYC radio broadcaster were brave enough to hire Imus. Which one would it be? My money is on WOR. I seem to recall back about ten or tweleve years ago they picked up Bob Grant (who at the time was being called a racist), after his show was cumped by WABC. Might they do the same for Imus? What is AM 710 doing in morning drive these days? (I live upstate, so therefore can't hear them).
The only other option might be for the I-man to lease time on a brokered AM station. And if he were to do that, then there would be no advertisers to boycott, seeing as he would be paying for the airtime himself. So the pressure groups wouldn't have a leg to stand on when it came to getting him kicked off that station. Does Multicultural Broadcasting own all of the time brokered AMs in the NYC metro area? If they do, then that might not be an option. Unless they were willing to sell airtime to programming that wasn't "multicultural."
I know this is going to offend some of you, but, I hope he makes a comeback. While I am not an obsessed fan by any means, I did find a lot of his interviews to be more enlightening and entertaining than that which I hear on most news/talk shows. Additionally, while I didn't find the "nappy headed ho's" remark to be at all humorous, I'll admit to laughing at some of the other bits I've heard.
I'm sorry, but some of us would rather wake up to some comedy and stimulating conversation than the phony "family friendly" happy talk on most morning shows. We have our rights too, you know?
