Radio Station vehicles in West KY

Been working in the Paducah area off and on for a few weeks now and I have had the opportunity to see some of the stations here on the streets. The top 40, Electric- has a cool van that looks like it was wrapped...very nice looking. There is a classic rocker here that is looking sharp too...and the country station in town has a large box truck with their mascot on the side. All of those stations are Bristol owned. They look good. But the station that takes the cake is 98.3. It's kind of an adult top 40 or a hot AC, I guess. They call themselves "K-98" and they have this huge black truck (looks like a bread truck) that is painted up like the A-Team and it says "the K-Team." I laughed...and then yesterday I saw the same station out with one of those huge radio jam box things. They are a little dated now, but they are fun none the less.

All in all the stations in Paducah area look awesome...(except for a hard rock station with a little Honda van...not that it looked bad...just didn't scream ROCK!).

I was wondering what station vehicles you have seen...and where? Who has the best station vehicles.

In Paducah, most everything looks good...but 983 gets the most unique award and I think ultimately the best award. Who else is rocking on the roads??

we talk a lot of radio on here...I think the vehicles matter some too. Lets get this topic going.

The way people talk around here, i'm suprised they can afford vans...and did you see that salary survey yesterday? My gosh, wages in radio are poverty level...sheesh...I made a good decision not going into radio.

They can't afford vans. They barter for them. Ya have to do something with that unused inventory.

There are probably a lot of radio people, who, if they had access to a time machine, would have made different career decisions.

Radio was never a high dollar profession. Nonetheless, there were times when the "fun" and "fulfilling" quotients were a lot higher than they are today.

I worked for one owner back in the nineties. He was building his "Lowry Mays wannabe empire" while screwing over everyone along the way. One of his stations had a classic country format. The GM, who was a decent guy, decided to live up to the country image by finding an old pick-up. One of his account executives found an old Chevy truck. The dealership made a deal for the truck and paint job with logo for $2,000 under the terms of fifty percent trade and fifty percent cash.

After a while the dealership never saw the cash and, for obvious reasons, inquired. The owner was confronted by the GM and AE. The owner, in his usual plausible deniability way, declared, "I thought the deal was all trade". He was informed his signature was on a contract indicating the 50/50 deal. Not missing a beat the owner then told his GM and AE to sell the dealership on fulfilling the deal with all trade so they could take advantage of the "wonderful advertising opportunities his stations could bring their business." Yes, the owner was a walking Dale Carnegie Seminar. Before my time ended with the company, he made a few small payments and a charge to his Discover card but still owed much of the thousand dollars.

That's pretty cool, but I just moved to the area 6 minutes ago and have already seen something way cooler. The new WKYQ Knight Rider Trans Am is pretty sweet. I actually pulled up next to it at a light and it talked to me and everything. BUT, even cooler was right after that I saw WKYQ's Bobby & Steve pass me on the interstate doing about 120mph in their Grand Torino. The Electric 96-9 General Lee car was pretty awesome, too. I saw it jump over 30 school buses in the parking lot on Paducah's Southside. However, the 94-7 vehicle was the best. It was a Bell 222b helicopter painted to look like Airwolf...but better yet, it was being flown by James Garner...it was called the "Classic Rock-ford Files Chopper". Pretty amazing. But even better that THAT is that ESPN Radio(the one that Bristol owns) has a "Bus". But it's not actually a vehicle...It's just Joe Jackson riding piggy-back on Jerome Bettis.
 
Is there any link to see these station vans mentioned? I was just through Paducah and got all of them recently airchecked. I bet they're awesome looking. Are they online somewhere on the station's website?

Man, what is it with radio people creating Radio-Info.com accounts for the express purpose of trying to BS people? We can see he registered this week, and this was his first post.

So he just moved to the area 6 minutes ago, but already he knows the call letters, frequencies, slogans, morning show hosts, owners, and vehicles of every station in Paducah, and he's already been to some station events.

We're all falling for it here. ;D

I think most everyone who read my post knew it was satire. Just poking fun at the original post. Now THAT was pure B.S.!
 
Seriously, you could have the slickest-looking station vehicle in the market that turns heads everywhere it goes. But once your vehicle causes a non-listener to tune in for the first time, you'd better be able to keep them. It's the on-air product that wins listeners, not station vehicles.
