Radio Station Web Sites

Does it drive anyone else out there loony when Radio Stations don't update their web sites? On one
station's site, they list Atlantic City concerts from the first week in December, Jock Remote appearances from last month, and two contests that have been over since November! Besides providing streaming to listeners
in an area where the station doesn't come in very well, there seems to be no other real value to the core listener or casual surfer. Any thoughts?

I think a well run and updated station website can be a huge assest. Casual fans can get all the info on the station and what is going on at all times, which may encourage them to listen for certain contests or new songs, etc. Not to mention advertising on the site can be a premium if you drive a lot of traffic there.

-MAYBE IT DOES NOT DRIVE ME LOONEY , but it makes me shake my head about their credibility

Back in the classic days of FM106.3, there was talk of publishing a fanzine, which immediately subsided as soon as someone asked "who's gonna design it, and who's gonna write it?" Eventually, FM106.3 put up a site, but since there was really only one person willing to spend time designing it and writing for it (and he was rather busy being the program director, I believe) it needed a lot of work. GRock's site now appears to be the work of the sales department, and it kinda shows.

While there are many exceptions, good airstaff and management do not necessarily generate compelling text or graphics, and are not necessarily qualified web page creators...and without a guaranteed income stream, they're not likely to shell out the money to get those sorts of people involved.

I don't really see a change to this in the short term, though stations blessed with savvy multi-taskers (e.g. WOXY.com, already a great website when it was terrestrial) can definitely benefit.
