Radio Stations in L.A. with Mix Shows

Please list all stations you know of in or near the L.A. area that contain DJ mixshows.
Rhythmic, Dance, and Top 40 (uptempo) sounds preferred.

I shall be coming to L.A. this coming weekend and this time will ONLY listen to fun, interesting stations - WITH dj mixshows.

-102.7 KIIS-FM (Friday/Saturday nights 10p-2a)
-Power 106 (all weekend long)
-99.1 KGGI (Friday/Saturday nights 10p-2a)
-Q104.7 (haven't listened for a while but I think its all weekend long.)

Well, speaking of KXOL, they seem to be off-the-air now at423PM Sunday, butnow they are back
to answer your question, I would checkout 2 of our
Spanish CHRs.
93.9 KXOS has a dance show from 9PM-11PM or
later on Saturday nights. And last New Year's Eve as well.
Also 107.1 KSSE has dance Friday nights, at
least by 930PM--and-Saturday evening they may
start at 8PM, seems to get more interesting
later during the night.
Hope that helps

Is there still a rhythmic Jammin Z90? Have they gone more rhythmic once again?
And I'm pretty sure KXOL still mixes as well.

How long has 93.9 been around.. Or is that where Movin used to be? I remember back in December 1996 when a bunch of stations in L.A. were still sounding great, there was this spanish station that played "the summer is magic" by Playahitti and "funky melody" by Stevie B. Not sure if it was at 93.9, but I think I remember this station being in the 98. ... area of the dial.

B100.3
Groove Radio 103.1
102.7 KIIS FM
99.1 KGGI
Power 106 La's Party Station
Q104.7 (which was difficult to get, but I knew existed)
92.3 The Beat (with reggae on Sunday nights)

THOSE WERE THE GOOD OL' DAYS!
Although the days of Lina Santiago, Lil Suzy, Amber, Jocelyn Enriquez, Dj Funk, The Outhere Brothers, Jonny Z, El Presidente, Rockell, Stevie B...etc are gone, I guess we could relive a modernized version of that sound through Jay Sean, Akon, Flo Rida, Pitbull, Dj Class, Mike Posner, Fareast Movement.. etc., and it looks as if although many format changes have taken place in time, we still have the same quantity of stations playing a modernized fashion of that sound today.

I wonder if there is still an Earthquake Mix on KGGI? Hopefully I get there Friday evening just in time for the action to start. I already know Power 106 will be doing their thing as usual, even though they've gone more hip hop lately by the looks of things. Based on what I've heard, KIIS is getting more interesting with their uptempo mixes these days. Seems like according to this entire thread, nothing much has changed much dial position-wise since 2006. Pretty much the same stations... but then again there is always that possibility that some of those stations have evolved mixshow-wise. Of course it's a known fact that the regular playlists of all stations change with the times so that's a given.

Ok, just arrived to L.A. and so far, :(
Hopefully things get more interesting at night.

Power seems to have gone more hip hop, but still seems to be the most interesting and live one out of all top 40/ rhythmic sounds right now. I'm going to use a different radio to see if I can pick up K-Day and hopefully Z90.3 or Q10.7 and whatever else is (still) out there. I can't even pick up 99.1 KGGI on what I have but I'll find something else to listen on by tonight.

Actually I shouldn't be too quick to be down on L.A. radio. After all, what sort of action or excitement should I expect at 10:11 on a Saturday morning, anywhere? Besides, their job really is basically just to play hits... so I can't complain as long as they are doing that. I'll just wait until tonight and see what happens here in L.A. these days. I am wondering though why isn't Power mixing?

To wrap this up, I'll just say KXOL, KIIS, and KPWR were the best with their mixes and pretty much in general as well. KIIS is the best overall sounding L.A. top 40, and KPWR of course is the best rhythmic.

KGGI, while their Sat. night mixes seem a little dry compared to how it was done in the 90's, they have a good Shockwave mix show and an underground dance show by Dj Lynnwood, but in some ways I think Power 106's Power Tools is at least just as good or even slightly better. I see KGGI still does their old school stuff on Sundays... Power 106, although highly highly repetitive, they do have some fun, live, party atmosphere people and dj's to liven up the station. Jammin Z90 XHITZ was alright with their mixes. They did play some mainstream dance remixes, However, the only interesting out of the ordinary thing they played was Alexis Jordan "happiness". KIIS had the best and most non underground mix shows that still featured actual non commercial CHR dance tracks, and I still say KIIS beats them all, despite the fact that they repeat their mix sets more than once in one night. KJLH had a pretty interesting segment of old school electro breaks featuring Egyptian Lover type sounds. KDAY has some great old school mixes, although I strongly wish they'd feature more  rhythmic old school dance material that was once big in L.A. as well! KXOL did an exceptional job with their mixes. KXOS and KSSE were sounding pretty nice, too, but I'm no longer in to those type of mix shows like I was back when I was younger.

It seems like a lot has changed in just one year. One year ago, it seemed like L.A. wasn't really all that dance friendly. Flash forward to now and things seem to have really picked up, especially on KIIS. Lastly, I'm not too sure how true those rumors about Power 106 going more urban really are. From what i've heard over the weekend, they didn't seem as urban as I was expecting based on some talk I saw somewhere on these boards. Q104.7 doesn't mix, and neither does Q96.1 (as far as I've heard last night / Saturday night).

Last year when I visited L.A., I picked a "best/favorite overall station". This year, I don't know if I can really pick one. Other than the mix shows, many of the top 40/rhythmic stations in Southern California sound somewhat too identical musically, unlike back in the late 90's when you could catch certain sounds on one that you couldn't get on the other, even during mix shows. With the large "sea of sameness" going on here in L.A., mix shows on certain stations to me really do make a big difference, ESPECIALLY if the mix show features exclusive interesting material not found on the regular playlist. If any top 40/rhythmic station without a mix show sounds almost identical to another with mix shows in L.A., I'll probably only listen to the ones that interest me most - which , of course, are the ones with live mix shows. I wish KBIG mixed - that would be interesting...

I guess you can now add the Super Estrella After-hours saturday nights 1a-4a on Super Estrella 107.1 Fm

-

Hopefully here in Az, our brand new La Kalle station will get down and do it right whenever they finally add in mix shows! I have a feeling whatever they do, it may be more fun and interesting than Latino Vibe...
