Radio Stations In Parades

Did anyone see any stations rolling in any of the parades? The entire Mardi Gras season I expected to see a bunch of them, but to my suprise I only saw Q93 and FM98. No WWL, no Bayou, no WNOE, no B-97, no Diva, etc.... What's the deal??

Sam

I read your posts about the parades...I may have a partial answer.
I don't think you would see any radio or TV station trucks/vehicles with their call letters showing in Orleans parish parades because I think in 1974 that parish specifically banned any such vehicles in any parades.
I don't think the other parishes have such an ordinance....I wonder if they didn't drive in parades because of insurance concerns? That's a guess only on my part.

Q-93, WLD-FM, KMEZ rode in Zulu. I do know that some of the 'superkrewes' like Endymion, Bacchus, etc. don't allow stations to ride. If you're lucky enough to get 'in' the stipulation is that you BETTER NOT THROW. Verbatim from a few captains. Seems contradictory when you consider that a cup with a station logo is taboo 'advertising', bu every other moron with a message has stuff fying from the floats :'(

As ya-boy says, it depends on the parade. Our excuse to ride was to provide "parade progress" coverage. Right.

I drove the WNOE van in Endymion one year, right behind the Captain's float. Nothing like having several million people yelling at you for not throwing something, while at the same time Eddie Muniz was staring holes in the van every time I discreetly passed a cup to a particularly attractive loyal station listener, all while trying not to mow down the folks who surrounded the van.

In this year's Zulu, did Q and FM98 still have their giant boom boxes? The WYLD boom box was bought from Atlanta's 99X about 8 years ago; even with all of the audio throw-weight that I added, remotes probably paid for it in the first month.

b97 sucks, so i dont doubt not seeing them in any of the parades. as for wyld and q93........i seen those guys in the zulu parade and they threw close to nothing to anyone! diva was on vets at a daiquiri shoppe doing some concert, however, they weren't actually in the parade.
is it the broadcasting companies that wont buy throws and have cups made OR is it the crew that wont allow them throw??

i look at it this way........ mardi gras is a local thing. these out of town blowhards dont give a hoot about it so theyre not going to cough up money to have a station roll in a parade. im sure they see no point to it and thats ok cause many of the stations we have here in south louisiana, especially new orleans, arent worth listening to. i enjoy my cds and ipod as do my children.....................sawtooth

Then why spend so much time on a RADIO board...isn't there an iPod board somewhere?

im sure there are boards for ipod users somewhere but this board is for posting opinions about radio and such and thats what im doing........posting my opinions.
