A follow-up to a previous post, which stations in Detroit need to go and why?

Considering the great job 89x is doing, especially in their target demo, Bell could stand to better target Detroit (like x does) and make a bit more money than they probably are with The River. My theory as to why they're alive: The station is profitable with it's Windsor business alone (over a 4 share in Windsor), so it's Detroit billing is just an added bonus. Plus, it serves as a buffer in case someone wants to launch a "Radio" format such as in Philly or Boston to attack 89x. If this is not the case, I think Bell could do much better considering their signal.
Ex-Act-Ly! AAA listeners generally want to hear music you can't hear everywhere else and that's the majority of WQKL's playlist. CIDR's playlist is full of things you can hear everywhere else and while that's bringing in some casual listeners, they're leaving once that song you can hear on Doug or Fresh is over. Their ratings are wayyyy too low for a 68,000 watt stick.MattHollidaye OnAir said:I get WKQL here in Taylor; now THAT'S how a AAA station is supposed to sound.
Can't flip to that format. CanCon rules would prohibit something like that because there isn't enough Canadian music to please the CRTC. I believe a station in Toronto tried that back in 2000, and flipped back to dance (which they've done twice before).jt1120 said:CIDR just doesn't seem to have any direction. Flip it already! I'd go old school/classic urban: R&B from the late 70's (post disco) to 1993, when hip-hop started to take over and ruin R&B. Just my Santa's list, that's all.
Chris I can't agree with more about Amp radio when Channel 95.5 had the market to them self's that station was a piece of shit!ChrisInMI said:I can't think of any radio stations in Detroit that I hate to the extent that I'd want the for
I'd like to see 103.5 WMUZ in its current incarnation get trashed and undergo a major overhaul. It is quite possibly the most boring Christian station I have ever heard. I'd like to see WMUZ become music-intensive like K-Love or Smile FM (neither of which has full-market coverage anyway, and aren't local besides), and leave the teaching and weekend infomercials to AM 560.
I don't think AMP Radio is going anywhere soon... word is their ratings are trending upward with Buck & Coop in the mornings, and I DON'T want to see Channel 955 have the CHR market all to itself (though I'd prefer the competing CHR not have replaced V98.7). Personally I would like to see 98.7 revert to the V98.7 branding, possibly as a Smooth AC along the lines of CBS' KTWV in L.A. ... Soft Rock 105.1's adding more CHR hits to their playlist and dumping some of their softer titles has reopened the hole in Motown for a TRULY soft music station. But I'd welcome a WWJ simulcast too, particularly since WWJ's nighttime signal is atrocious in my neck of the woods because of their directional pattern.
Didn't 93.9 try an Urban Oldies format for a couple of months around 20 years ago? I never heard it on the air but have heard it was called "I-94."
