Radio Terminology?

Can anyone explain how to classify the song categories of "Gold" and "Classics"?

I am making a rotation currently and don't quite grasp what songs would fall under those categories.

Also, am I to believe "Recurrent" are songs that aren't brand new but still recent and popular?

Thanks!

You can call your categories anything you want. Most stations have different levels of categories.

Current - you can have Power, Heavy, Hot, Medium, Light, New, Test, Spike, Burning

Recurrent - This is where well-performing post current songs go to play until they burn up. Usually its time frame is post current to 2 years. A with the current category(ies), you can have several levels.

Gold - This where songs find a new home after living the hot life in recurrentville. With several levels you place the song based on testing or gut.

Classics - this would be a sub category of "Gold". A classic is a song that alone can define a format/genre.

As with all songs - everything is subjective.
