The new group in town is bringing back Mike and Tex. Did they not ask around before making a decision like this?

Is there something the new owner's should know? The information that I saw showed pretty decent ratings for them over the years, even coming in at number 1 in one Arbitron book. I know one of the new owner's partners. Is there a skeleton in the radio closet that they should know about?

Thanks for pointing that out, lance. I'm proud of the hard work that our team did to get those "pretty decent ratings", as well as to pull the highest revenues that station has ever seen. Those numbers (both ratings and revenue) have never been matched since by subsequent owners, Managers, DJ's, program directors, etc. (Not even close, by the way). I didn't post here to brag, but when someone isinuates that hiring us is a mistake, then I have to stand up and call "Bulls___" on this poster.

Musicradio, I'm pretty sure the owners of a multi-million dollar group of radio properties did indeed ask around before making that hiring decision. Is it really neccesary for you to denegrate other radio professionals just trying to do a job?

That's not cool, man! Why don't we all just try to do our jobs to the best of our ability, and quit bashing other radio professionals trying to do their jobs?

Oh yeah, I'm Mike.

What was the reason that the show was discontinued by the former owners if the ratings were so good? Not trying to attack anyone here, but Musicradio brings up a point. I realize that there has been a lot of downsizing and syndication and such over the past 15-20 years, so I'm just curious on why a radio station/group would take a top-rated show off the air?

I've never worked in Texarkana, but I am familiar with a lot of the radio personalities that have been on the air there over the past 20 years or so, and I'm sorry, but I've never heard of "Mike and Tex", so I was just wanted some information on your show.

Mike was the original owner of KOOL 95 when it first came on back in the 90's. Since he sold they have been through a few different owners and I know Mike and Tex did mornings under at least one of those ownership's
.

Since when do new owners need a reason to make change ?? . They always know more ...and besides it's their new toy.
When they cut Tex in 04/05 it had nothing to do with ratings. One of the owners was a woman who didn't care for Tex's e-mail humor.
For a lot of Texarkana listeners it'll be a comfort to hear a couple of old friends on the air.....

Nice to see all the "new" members. I wasn't putting down the professionals in our industry. Sorry if it came across that way. Lance, tell your friend I wish him the best. I will stick with my original question.

SHERLOCK HOLMES SOLVES A RADIO MYSTERY

"One reason I don’t hang out at online radio forums is they’re so often filled with attacks on other radio personalities.

Invariably, the people doing the attacking either are anonymous or they’re people without successful radio careers."

Look, Mike and Tex got good ratings, plain and simple. (However, beating KKYR in ONE book is an anomaly, not a dynasty.) Most of the complaints I ever heard about Mike were about his personality and/or his management style, not about his show. So in my opinion, it's worth a shot for the new owners to bring the show back. Who knows, maybe a change in scenery and different bosses will have them singing a different tune.

Besides, the Arklatex isn't exactly brimming with world class talent to pick from. :p ;D

Hi Pat! ;D

I knew it was you. Tex and I are having fun, and I'm too old to hold grudges. It's bad for my health. Good luck to you. and to all my friend at KOOL.

I think there's probably only one still there :)

Mike

I'm good. I moved out west and took a job with "Corporate Radio". It's nice though. Steady paycheck, good benefits, regular hours, and I only have to worry about 4 stations instead of ~100. I do miss some of my ol' Arkansas radio friends though.

It sounds like I left TXK just before all the excitement though. I read that Bob DelGiorno bought the new 94.1 signal in town. I tried to get AMI interested in buying it, because I always thought they needed a format that wasn't 55+, but they weren't interested. So I'm glad Bob grabbed it, because he always puts a good effort into running a station.

I'm glad you like the new job. I haven't heard that much about Bob's stations. He is a real visionary and sees how to make his stations work.

I've been listening to Hits 105 and I am impressed so far. I heard an actual local newscast that didn't sound like it was read out of the paper

I agree arklatexradioguy. The music is spot on, the marketing tight, and I guess I heard the same newscast. Story about a shooting in Wake Village. The story included a sound-bite from a WVPD official. Been awhile since I've heard news that well produced in this market.

Those guys at KOOL are in trouble. They've not tidied up in a long long time. Some of the liners they run have been on the air for >5 years! They aren't playing the hits. And the jocks sound stale.

Remember splashing a line of white paint on an old wall and being surprised how dingy that wall was compared to the new paint?

That is what KOOL listeners who sample HITS are experiencing.
