Radio Things I'm Thankful For

Happy Thanksgiving! There is often a lot of bickering and banging on this board. So to set a better tone for the holiday, here are just a few radio things I'm thankful for this year.

I'm thankful.....

That Rewind 94.9 is on and that Steve Mann is doing p.m. drive.

That The Dawn Patrol is still a bunch of potty-mouth old pervs.

That Seg Dennison has survived all the blood letting at Clear Channel.

That the Bengals (WLW) haven't been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs before turkey day.

That Chris and Janeen are still married, still with microphones, and still making mornings pop on WGRR.

That I don't own any Citadel or Regent stock.

That the U.C. football Bearcats (WLW) are still undefeated.

That Brian Douglas is still alive and rockin' on Q102.

That 1480 is still a great place for oldies and 60's style jocks.

That Nancy and Kerrigan are still the brightest spot on Dayton morning radio.

That George Noorey (WKRC, WHIO) keeps all the truly insane people up all night so that they sleep during the day and leave us normal people alone.

That we have a great radio board like this where everyone can voice an opinion, from intellectual giants (like myself) to complete morons (like YOU!) ;D

I'm in agreement. And I would add:

I'm thankful that Q102 hasn't been the victim of the indecisiveness Bonneville seems to have with other frequencies (see 94.9, 97.3).

Hi Tanksback and thanks for the very nice note regarding WYRE! Tried to respond via this website, however, had a glitch. Hopefully you'll see this.
You worked at some really good stations there in the DC area. We had a number of PGC guys end up at YRE. Jack Alix for one. Can't really take credit for the success of the station. The owners were innovative and sharp. Some really good radio people passed through that building. Alix, Carl Marcocci, Erny Tannen, Barry Richards, Kirby Confer, Dennis Constantine, and many others. Good to hear from you. Thanks!

Thankful that we still have a station (WHIO) that covers breaking news and weather when appropriate (A lot of markets don't).

That WLW still isn't "all syndicated all the time".

That we can hear out of market stations on the internet

That 1480 is still playing oldies, even though I can't get them as well as I got 1160

That there is a successful LPFM that lets an old guy play DJ.

I've been thankful for a number of years that I don't work for Cumulus...

...or Clear Channel.

Other than Almighty God, for radio.
With all of the current challenges, we still get to go on the air and communicate. Share ideas and shape opinion.
We are still at the helm of a very powerful ship.
Happy Thanksgiving, friends.
Share the love.

What am I grateful for?

The listeners of WHKO (K-99.1 FM) in Dayton...who, just today...in a down, crappy economy, being asked to only give half of what we've asked them to do in the past...along with some wonderful sponsors, helped us raise $200,000 for Dayton Children's Medical Center in our annual "Cares For Kids" Radiothon. That figure, astoundingly, is up from last year...and now pushes us (as I'm told) within striking distance of having raised $2 million dollars for the hospital in the past 12 years.

My congratulations to everyone involved, as well as to Nancy Wilson and Steve Kerrigan. (Kerrigan lost his voice today...but fortunately, recovered well enough to hang in there to the end.) Both of these people have spent countless hours preparing for the three day event...and stayed on the air for over 40 hours across 3 days to make it happen. I am proud to be one of their colleagues and was proud to be part of this event.

One of our young cancer patients from the hospital today got the news that her tests had come back "N.E.D.". That stands for "no evidence of disease". Yes, she is now cancer-free, thanks to the wonderful doctors at Dayton Children's. When you sit down for Thanksgiving dinner, please keep this young lady and her family in your thoughts and prayers, and think about what a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas present that is to her and her family.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm thankful

...that WKEF/WRGT television has picked up the tab to continue the Thanksgiving Day tradition to feed the less fortunate in Dayton after the Beerman Foundation threw in the towel.

that oldies can still be found on 1480 in Cincy,940 WCIT in Lima

...and on WRPO-LP Russells Point (which is having a pledge drive on Saturday and Sunday so they can stay on the air.)

that I still have a regular job...in spite of the fact my employer had to make pay cuts this summer so everybody can still have a job, fortunately we got our regular pay back this month, provided things will improve.

that Kim Faris still graces the Dayton airwaves

that Ohio State beat Michigan

...and that I still have a family I come home to every evening....which is the biggest blessing of all.
