Radio tuner suggestions

hey Guys,
My Carver Tx-11 tuner S**T the bucket recently and my sangean HDT-1 signal wise Has been acting very weakly recently a lot less that it should hooked up to my Terk Fm-50 with 75 ft RG quad shileding coax going to the back yard. Here in Saint Johnsbury VT. I could use some suggestions on radio tuners that I could use to replace the sangean I have in use that might be up for sale...

I still got the carver if anybody wants the parts with 2 modified If filters.

thanks

~OZ :)

You'll find that most modern tuners aren't worth much: most of them are a tuner on a single chip, and sound like it! I personally use a Yamaha TX-1000U, which was Yamaha's top-of-the-line tuner from the late 80's, and it's an amaxing tuner: great audio, and amazing sensitivity and selectivity. Have a look at http://www.fmtunerinfo.com for some good reviews on used tuners. BTW: can the Terk antenna, and get yourself a good FM yagi and a rotator like an APS-9B or an APS-13 from Antenna Performance Systems if you want REAL reception! http://www.antennaperformance.com

HAHA in answer to you question it was the terk... I busted not one but both coils that were connected to the outgoing motherboard which turns the singnal into the Coax. I found this out when I hooked up my cc crane antenna to a 75 ft quad shielded cable up into a tree to try to improve the reception and it did the trick. I'm tempted on getting a magnum Dynlab radio tuner anybody try those. in Old Greenwich Ct, I can get the CT inland stations so fringy because of sideband ( next channel up or down) interference mostly on the sangean so i'd love to give it a try

Are you sure it's the Sangean that's gone bad and not the Terk?

The Magnum Dynalab tuners are the best I've ever used. Not having an infinate budget we purchased a bunch of MD90's with the optional (free) extra narrow BW2. This allowed for cleaner monitoring of our stations running HD Radio. I also purchased one for my home setup to replace my Carver TX11b and I'm very satisfied (no AM though) and their customer service is absolutely fantastic.

There's little worth DXing anymore, so I got one figuring the last FM tuner I owned would be a good one.

I received a Sangean HDT-1X as a gift last year. Much to my amazement it's the hottest DX receiver I've ever used. And that's saying something. I have a modified Carver TX-11A in addition to modified Yamaha T-80 and T-85's. Antenna is an APS-13. The Sangean out of the box blows away every other rig I have.
I had used a Magnum Dynalab MD-90. Pretty good right out of the box. I'd put it on par with an unmodified T-80. And unmodified T-85 blows the MD-90 out of the water. The APS-13/HDT-1X combo picks out more first adjacencies to IBOC stations that anything else I've heard. From everyday distant FM listening to trop and E-skip, get the HDT-1X.
