Radio via Phone - Who Does It?

Pardon me if this has been discussed before, but as I was curious about radio coverage of Sandy further down the coast from New Jersey where I live, I went to listen to WTOP. While there, I saw a mention that they broadcast live over a phone number [(202) 380-9977]that you can call. Sure enough, you call the number, and there is the radio station (processed very well for a phone call I might add).

I'm curious if there are other radio stations that use this technology. Though maybe "old" compared with smartphone streaming, I find it rather nifty and useful, especially for non-data plan users.

Anybody know of others?

A few years back there was a local (360 NPA) number that carried simulcasts of several Internet audio streams, including the stream simulcast of WOKIE. I forget what the number is, though; in fact, I'm not sure it's even still connected.

Our radio cluster is also the head-end for a regional radio satellite network. We maintain an autocoupler bank with a dozen phone lines in it, for the occasional affiliate who is having satellite problems and needs a temporary phone feed.

hope this thread isn't dead yet.. but "Liberty Radio Network" does the "listen by phone" also. I've noticed many of those offbeat stations (shortwave, 'alternative media', Christian broadcasting) do this. And I've also wondered the same "Who DOES this?" interesting concept.
