Radio viewing technology goes live in Houston

Interesting. Very interesting and inventive. I wonder if the advent of this technology will prompt in the future the hiring of only "pretty" DJs?

In other words, a studio webcam.

That's so 1998!

What exactly is groundbreaking here? What am I missing?
______________

On the surface it sounds just like a webcam, but I assume it is a higher quality and adds some kind of interactive element. It will probably be scalable and will add more features in with time. Any of our Buzz posters have any more info?

The Buzz website has a new link to this as the "Bud Peep Show." The link opens the following page which describes the new interactive features of this studio-cam setup. It's designed for listeners to view, chat, take polls about the on-air activity, etc.

Studio Cam + Chat Room + Popup ads.

Now, of course, the webcam can be "CamTracked" by out of market talent who do the same thing for multiple stations.

This is so reminiscent of the NAB Radio Show in San Francisco right before all the Dot Coms became Dot Bombs... all these guys were crawling around the floor with half baked business plans.

Now that internet advertising is starting to bounce back, I shouldn't be surprised to see this again.

We'll know if they earned any revenue if it's still there in a year.
______________

Exactly right, johndavis. What is groundbreaking about a webcam in a studio. Most of the time jocks turn the camera to the window so they can't be seen - especially when they are being VT'd!!

Clear Channel is actually doing something groundbreaking right here in Houston. Not on The Buzz but on KPRC. Michael Garfield's High Tech Texan show (Saturdays) has been doing live videoconferencing. Apparently Garfield has a webcam where he can be seen and listeners/computer users who have their webcam can log on and be seen at the same time. An actual videoconference.

I read or heard something about this a few months ago. Apparently he uses it to show off and describe gadgets he talks about but also uses it for contests. (He tells people to hold up an object or something; first one who produces what he asks for wins).

THAT is groundbreaking. Wondering if other local CC stations or San Antonio are planning to do similar....
