Radio Web Sites

This is a little bit of a rant here.

I am going to be away from my TV this afternoon and I thought I would listen to the game on the radio. So I went to ESPNs, NFLs, local sports stations webs sites (3 of them), and could I find out who was carrying the playoff games. No! Not a word! not a wimper! No indication at all. I have no idea except by scanning the dial later who is carrying the games.

Some of the web sites (except for automatic feeds) look like they have not been updated for months.

What is the use of ahving a web site if it is not current, and at least has the radio station current broadcast schedule.

If it were my station's web site I would have had something like this in banner letters across the top.

Very early this morning I was wanting to know the game time and it took alot of clicking to find a site that would let me select my time zone.

Let's face facts; kids are in charge of the media outlets.

For the Denver game, I gave up on finding the local (flea power at night) and listened to the game on KOA out of Denver. There is a still a reason for the 50kw clear channels even if the FCC doesn't think so.

Many years ago, when most communities were places that "vulgar speech" was not the acceptable norm, there was this poster, this wall hanging, that men would stash on their wall, and maybe on the back side of a closet door... depending on the traffic in their office. There was only one three letter word in the poster, but it was enough to trigger the "speech police" in many a small Southern community.

It described the difficulties encountered by people trying to dig and construct the Panama Canal and dwelled on (to the best of my memory) mosquitos, heat, snakes, and who knows what all. The punch line at the bottom was something like: " .... but it is hard to remember that your main goal is to construct a canal when you are up to your ass in alligators."

There needs to be a modern day version of that poetic bit of nonsense to hang in today's radio station, and maybe hang from the rear view mirror of everyone working at a station. It would sarcastically remind folks that the primary goal is to gain and keep listeners. I've looked at a lot of radio station web sites, and they appear to be designed and maintained by people who would probably look at one of those old alligator posters and comment: "I don't understand. What does it mean?"

P.S. I always wear my rubber waders when cruising through radio station web sites. ::)
