Radio White Noise makes the comics

I can find a link that's not behind a paywall, but today's (04/07/26) Rhymes With Orange Comic strip has a store employee selling a "dusty old radio stuck between stations" in a box as a white noise machine. With FM translators how many top 100 markets have a lot white noise channels?

Why bother with a FM radio when the White Noise format is available by streaming?

Or Pink Noise?

Or Brown Noise?

Dig around and you can find Violet, Orange, Green, and Red Noise streams.

I believe this is a radio topic thread about a COMIC STRIP featuring a dusty old radio. Why use data which, with even unlimited plans costs when FM white noise is free?

I used to occasionally tune a radio to 87.5 MHz to get white noise at night. At the time, I lived next to a road, so every so often it would be punctuated by 5-10 seconds of hip-hop or bhangra from a passing car with one of those little FM transmitters (again, something you don't see much of any more).

Orange you glad Radio Discussions attachments aren't behind a paywall?

I am glad you found a link. When I posted it originally I couldn't find a newspaper that had a "free link". I try to be careful not to get the "copyright police" after me.

That copy came from the Santa Fe New Mexican's online subscriber edition.

If you ever want a high quality copy of a comic, though, many strips have official web sites these days where you can read the current and sometimes past editions free. And since they often use content management systems (CMS) for serving images, you can usually pull out high quality copies, even if the normally-displayed versions aren't.

For example in the case of RWO, the particular one you wanted can be found at https://comicskingdom.com/rhymes-with-orange/2026-04-07

Right-clicking the comic's image on that page reveals that it comes from a CMS URL with image size and quality constraint parameters: https://comicskingdom.com/_next/ima...l0aCBPcmFuZ2UtRU5HLTYwNDk1NjU.jpg&w=1200&q=75

Cleaning up that URL by removing the useless proxy loader and the aforementioned parameters then gives you the full resolution original (2048x642): https://wp.comicskingdom.com/comics...tSaHltZXMgd2l0aCBPcmFuZ2UtRU5HLTYwNDk1NjU.jpg
