This morning tried to tune into the wonderful radio x on 94.7 and it was being chewed up by WFME and WMAS. Funny enough the further west i went i decided to try the other X's and 104.5 and 94.9 were rebroadcasting WMAS crystal clear all the way to 110. why? I think i know why, but why not WFME, and why was is soo clear on the other translators and in strong stereo? Just curious.

Probably because of tropo DX. If the translators were west of WLIX, then their antennas would be aimed east, and WFME is west of the area. WMAS is almost due north, and a signal from 90 degrees would make it into the antenna easier than a signal from 180 degrees.

Or maybe WLIX was off the air at the time, so it wouldn't cause "interference" to WMAS and WFME in your area.<P ID="signature">______________

There was probably strong tropo, which was overpowering the weak signal on 94.7. Since 94.9 and 104.5 are translators, and rebroadcast the over-the-air signal at the transmitter site, they were rebroadcasting the signals that were coming in due to tropo.

This also used to happen when WLIR was on 92.7 and had its simulcast on 107.1. Even though 107.1 was not a translator, the transmitter was so far away from the (then) Garden City studios, that TMO could not use a STL directly. Instead (from what I have heard), a highly sensitive FM radio was installed at the other TMO transmitter site in Manorville, set to 92.7 FM, and that signal was then relayed by STL to the 107.1 transmitter site, which worked fine except in cases of tropo, as described above....I remember 92.7 out of Toms River, NJ, would come in clearly in those cases!

cool thanks, hopefully this won't happen too often, but with the summer months approaching this could happen more often then not.
