RadioGPT: Management's Ultimate Dream

You've probably seen this already, AI created commercials, voice tracks, DJ's, available now for any computer. And it's very well done.

Reminds me of a story a colleague told me about working at a radio station in Ashtabula when he had the audacity to ask the GM/Owner for a raise. The response he got was, "Why do I have to pay people to talk on the radio?"

This has remained with me over the years as I have seen the same attitude play out across the industry. Now, their most fervent prayers have been answered, whole operations without a single human being, indistinguishable from the real thing. Yay for you. Goodbye to people. The world of The Terminator awaits.

Yet some of the highest paid people in radio are certain morning show hosts. They bring something to radio that can't be duplicated. They can also make personal appearances and other custom services that can be monetized locally. Of course if they don't want to do personal appearances, and just sit in the studio all day, and just read pre-written liner cards, their uses are limited.

But with regards to AI, someone has to program the computer. So it's a different kind of job that could also handle social media and other digital functions.

Indeed. One person/entity controlling/programming 100 voices, 1000 voices, 10,000 voices, all saying the same thing, the same message, over and over all around the world...one doesn't have to be an ardent sci-fi fan to see the implications of that bit.

(Although an argument could be made we already have that on talk radio!):)

Keep in mind local DJs are all playing the same music produced by three international music conglomerates. Radio is mass media.

It's still a computer and computers can be hacked so one day you might hear "Hey all you motherf****rs here's another incredibly s****ty song from our bas***d PD who thinks this song is hit bound.....more like shitbound......so keep your perky little tits tuned to 'The Flaming Bunghole' at 97.3 and half. Oh, no more Adele either. Since we're all computerized, all tunes will be done by a Dell. And after that tune, stick around for 9 and a half minutes of ADS, many of them repeated TWICE!" And it'll only take them 3 hours to notice before someone will have to hop in a car, haul butt to the station to pull the plug on the malfunctiong
