Radiothon

...AND, not to be accused of being one-sided, hats off to all of the talent for doing the radiothon. Obviously, it's nice to see the pendulum swing to the good side. Credit where credit's due.

Agreed. From what i heard the CC folks did a very good thing. Apparently they offered the broadcast to all other stations but nobody took it. But they still put some other station's talent on with them. Good boys and girls. How much was raised?

What I want to know is how much actually went to relief efforts and how much went into Lowrey's pocket?

Wow--good job, you busted them! 100% went into Lowrey's pockets, how'd you know? The whole "Red Cross" thing was just a big scam. This drive was really an initiative to meet their 4th quarter budget.

C'mon man, that was a lame comment to make. Good for CC for stepping up when no one else did.

While the comment and question would have been better phrased differently, why oppose it? Other "charities" have scammed before. Having been ripped-off, I also do not quickly trust fundraisers.

When no one else did?? What about the $155,000 the Journal stations, KGUN, and KVOA helped collect a whole week before CC's efforts? Need to give all credit where credit is due.

EVERYONE did a good thing stepping up. Makes me proud to still be in this business (Sniff).

Sorry, have to correct you. Lotus stations also participated however due to our concert the next day we felt it would be better not to take the CC feed they were giving. We were on site most of the day Friday and gave the number out over the air. We had John Jay and Rich, Ken Carr, Alan Michaels and members from Hot98.3 as well as sister KFMA on our airwaves. They also put us on the air with them as well. It was a cool feeling to participate in something where we could all come together.

I'm sorry, I should've made my post more clear. I meant no other group joined the 48 hour "radiothon." Apparently the plan was for every station in Tucson to broadcast simultaneously, this "radiothon" from TMC. All the stations would broadcast together, and air the same feed. CC was the only group that followed through, actually stopping their programming for 48 hours STRAIGHT and airing this same feed on all 7 stations. I'm sure the other companies did great things on their own, it just would've been nice if all the other groups would've taken part, that's all I'm saying.
Edited by hit_kicker on 09/17/05 03:46 PM.

I believe it was 28 hours?

It turns out that the CC group originated and produced the event and invited all other media to join in the simulcast. But the Lotus and the Journal folks did their own thing which included some of their talent being heard on the simulcast. Citadel may have done something else but they did not participate directly like Lotus and Journal.

It was a valiant thing for CC to do and they are to be congratulated.

It is understandable that some of the other stations did not want to go all talk for 28 (or was it 48) hours. With all respect, how would The Frank Show, which has made its mark by skewering John Jay and Rich and many other broadcasters, sound trying to be sincere about sharing the airwaves? Could Max and Mary be expected to run live audio from "The Mexicanz" of Hot 98?

Face it, this was an excellent idea for a cluster. And CC was that cluster.

they've been long gone

this proves no one misses them

True. Not only that... even if they were here, it would've probably be a 98 hour Taco-a-thon.

What does that say for the Hot 98s new show though? Nobody realized they were here :-(

Plus, KIIM's Morning show hasn't been "Max and Mary" for a couple of years now, but who's keeping track.

I heard Big Z on the air...ALOT!! Even though Journal only had a small portion of the broadcast on the air, it was refreshing to see the talent over there supporting the cause!!!
