RadioX Ends FM Broadcasts April 1

Apparently sad but true based on a prerecorded message when you call the studio. RadioX is planning its last FM broadcast April 1, and will become a religious broadcaster on Easter Sunday. They recording says that the RadioX format will continue on its website through the summer.

My first impression, this sux. Could it be an April Fools Hoax? The April 1 date makes me wonder...

Someone on NYRMB said there was an article in today's Newsday mentioning the end of Radio X, but I cant seem to find it on their website.
No mention of this on Radio X's website.
Also there was word that Radio X was seeking a 101.5 translator in Plainview, and that will be part of new relgious broadcaster's network.
Just what we need here in Nassau is an even more crowded radio dial, and religuous stuff no one is gonna listen to anyway.
101.5 is one of the last somewhat open frequencies in Nassau. Once that Plainview translater goes on the air, it'[s gonna be harder to get WKCI 101.3, NJ 101.5, or 101.7 The Beat.,

Someone else on that board mentioned that there were two translators approved...101.5 in Plainview and 96.5 in Shirley. I also tried to find the article on Newsday's website, without any luck. Did anyone get the print edition or contact the station directly?

It was in Rafer Guzman's column on Page 3 of yesterday's (Thursday's) Part II. I can't find it on Newsday's web site (the last article of his they have on line is Feb. 15).

Yes, see my original post. There is a recorded a message explaining it all. Just call the studio to hear it, 631-345-3946.

They say that "Holding Out Hope Church" is buying the station. Never heard of it, and thats a strange name for a church.
I'll believe it when I hear it.
April 1st is always a date to beware of, I don't want to get fooled.

I found a link through a Google search for the "Holding Out Hope" church: http://www.holdingouthope.cc/. Of course, it just points to a placeholder site by Networking Solutions, so make of that what you will. The listing I found has them at 600 Middle Island Rd. in Middle Island, and their number 631-451-2242.

I was actually told about this in confidence by someone who hosts one of the special weekend shows, months ago,and was asked not to say anything.. it didn't just happen..let's face it, it was all downhill after my "Music Xtra News Reports" were no longer in heavy rotation...lol...
all the best to Scotty, Jack, and everyone involved(and RadioX WILL continue as an on line entity)
I loved the station, but what I didn't love was the absence of personalities, which is what, in my own little way, I like to think I brought to the station on the "Music News" side;
in an ipod era, radio needs to be an alternative to ipods, not just an in car ipod that fades out when you drive in the wrong direction...

Yeah Radio X seemed to lack any personality, just sounded like an iPod. Radio needs to have personality and local content.
Well I wish the new WLIX better luck, hopefully this new Christian contemporary format will work out.
I liked the old Contemporary Christian format on WLIX 540AM, so this change shouldn't be too bad. Are they going to broadcast in stereo?

Its hard to be all things to all people. I also missed the personality, but I enjoyed a spirited mix of music that really can't be found anywhere on terrestrial radio. When in Suffolk, I always listened to RadioX instead of Sirius. My two sons are fanatic listeners to that station and are pretty pissed. IMHO Long Island radio's niche formats are far superior in programming to Sirius. Unfortunately, you either can't hear them, or they can't survive in this market.

Thanks for trying Scotty, and good luck. I recall thanking Stu Henry for WLIE a few years back, another frequency eaten up by religious programming. I guess the radio guys are figuring out where the money really is...

Put your hands on the radio and give me an amen!

WLIE
WBON
WLIR (the real one)
WLIX-LP

and when Scotty opened up the mic, it was great, I think he is one of the unsung greats; but it seems like the game plan was in another direction..
I'm sure we'll be hearing from Scott again....

You can't legally sell an LPFM, which RadioX is, if i recall correctly.

However, one or two other groups have done it before, requesting special permission from the FCC.

Another LPFM'er in Rhode Island, WBLQ-LP is "giving up" so to speak and leasing out the time

i wonder how the church is taking over..... did RadioX's people sell the equipment and the license came with it? Were the church people put on the board of RadioX?

The countdown begins....

Radio-X promos have been playing Jesus Christ Superstar and touting the RETURN of WLIX. Apparently, a play on the former WLIX 540 AM, which has a Christian format in the 80's.

:'(

RadioX went said its farewell's last night at about 8PM, with much of the team in studio, laughing and telling jokes. There were lots of thanks to listeners, supporters and sponsors along with 18 months worth of station ID sounders mixed throughout. The final two songs were Simple Plan's "How Could This Happen to Me", and Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)." As I shut down, it sounded like a final Long Island Blues Warehouse RadioX broadcastwas going to air (Long Island Blues Warehouse will continue elsewhere and it sounded like Mark Klein was close to a deal with another station.) If anyone knows what followed that, please post it here. Right now there is some soft techno/classical sounding music playing.

PS to the guys in studio (not Scotty who actually stated that he appreciated the input from radio boards) who referenced the radio wannabees who post on the message boards around 7PM last night. I'm the wannabe whose post you were referencing (it was from the RadioInsight board.) Maybe you should take Scotty's advice in the future and actually read what your fans say, lest you grow up to be corporate destroyers of radio you so despise and tried so hard to beat.

Godspeed to all of you, and we hope to hear you on the airwaves again.

The comment was stated by me and only me and not by any of the other participants in the broadcast... and wasn't it refreshing that it didn't make it on the boards until the very end.... that we didn't have 4 months of 50 threads on the same subject. It went out with class and respect and just enough notice IMHO.

And Scotty is right about the fans on the message boards, but there are times where there are angles that people who post on message boards don't get to see because they are not on the inside.

"Wow, thats a November blog, and it managed to stay off of the radio boards and out of Newsday (ok, THAT is no surprise), until now. Interesting..."

C'mon Mike, you've been around these boards forever. You know the difference between good and stupid comments. My post was commenting on how unusual it was for news like that to stay off the board. Was the timing perfect, yes, but that wasn't the point. There was nothing wrong with that post, and in-fact, you'd be hard pressed to find ANY derogatory comments about what RadioX has done on this or any other radio board. Your comment (and the laughter it generated) were IMO, misplaced. Why attack the fans!

PS - Yes I'm making a big deal over nothing, and I'm not really offended, but it was fun to hear my post talked about by a station I loved! I'm the Dentist of RadioInsight!!!
