What happened to this board
I'm similarly disappointed with the activity on this board since the 'split'. The change was much more than a format change. You may not be aware but there was a disconnect between the family of the late founder of Radio-Info and the management and daily operation of the board. As far as I know from what I've read, the old management and most of the moderators from Radio-Info have moved to another radio board serving a very similar if not identical function. You can read more about that on other sections of Radio-Info.
My opinion is that there just isn't enough activity on the Long Island radio scene to warrant two boards. I like them both and quite frankly don't know where to post anymore. Sometimes I feel silly but post the same thread to both. My biggest problem with Radio-Info is that the moderators of the Long Island board were knowledgeable, participated and often spearheaded topics of conversation. We don't have that here anymore, and they don't seem to do it nearly as much on the board they do moderate. I get the feeling that the philosphy on moderator participation was one of the reasons the moderators of this board had to leave. The other board has even less traffic than this one. The NYC boards were always busier than Long Island (makes sense being in the number 1 market), but those seems to be down as well, and the quality is not what it once was.
I think there are other factors as well. Nassau/Suffolk is a tough market to discuss, because there are no stations that reach the entire geographic region. There are some great stations out east, but I can't comment on what I can't hear. Island 94.3 is always an interesting topic because of its ratings struggle, but unless your in the center of Long Island, you can't comment because you can't hear them (oh yeah, and probably the major reason for their rating struggle, programming notwithstanding). Then there is the fact that LI radio doesn't seem to change much. When it does you get a burst of activity and then its gone. Personally, I can't comment as much because I've grown frustrated with terrestrial radio and listen to satellite 60% of the time. I think all of this contributes to a quiet board.
