Raffy Contigo leaving Rumba

All Access reported today that PD/morning drive host Raffy Contigo is leaving Rumba for KLOL "MEGA 101" in Houston, which is dropping Hurban for Spanish contemporary.

At WKOXKS, afternoon driver Miguel Miguel takes over as PD... no new morning host named yet. Anyone think this could be the beginning of the end for the station, or is it just Contigo receiving a promotion (and given his track record at 95.7/Denver, 104.1/ABQ, and the colossal half-shares that Rumba has been receiving, perhaps the more interesting story is why?)

This is a great move for the guy. He's moving to a bigger market, especially for Hispanic listeners.

Interesting to see the Houston station drop Hurban. I noticed "La Kalle 105.9" in NJ/ NYC has dropped a lot of reggaeton from it's rotation, and replaced it with bachata.

I wonder if it would get more than half shares if there were not 5 pirates operating in the area?

There's not all that much Spanish programming on the pirates. They're mostly Caribbean, Haitian, Soca, Reggae, Reggaeton, R&B... some Spanish, but not enough to affect WXKS/WKOX. Rumba just isn't making it here for some reason. WNNW which only comes in well north of Boston, and WUNR with brokered Spanish, are comparatively blowing away WXKS/WKOX in the ratings.

I don't think most cars I hear playing Spanish music in the area are even listening to it on the radio. They've got it playing on CD's, maybe .mp3's, etc...

I think you're onto something. Believe it or not, there's a running spring near downtown Lawrence, and
I get my water for drinking, soups, spaghetti and giving to my cat there. Needless to say, most of
the vehicles that have any kind of "music" playing feature Hispanic-flavored material and it ALL sounds as
if it's coming from CD's MP3's or even cassettes...I never hear an announcer, call-letters or commercials
(many of which are in English on WNNW-AM 800; oh, and today I heard an employment announcement on Radio Rumba...I still have car radio presets from the Air America/Jones days...amd it was in English).
