Rain Fade

When there is a heavy rain or thick cloud cover, does Sirius loose the signal as does DirecTV does? If not, can anyone explain?

I never lost signal when it rained. A couple of years ago my PNP got fried and it started to smoke because a thunderstorm hit it.
 
I've had Sirius for over a year and have never had any drop out's due to clouds or rain. And Florida in the summer, that's everyday at 4pm.

I have to disagree. If it's a fairly typical rainstorm, no loss of signal. But if it's a serious thunderstorm, I've lost the Sirius signal for up to 20 minutes.

I usually have my Sirius radio on a few hours a day and lose the signal due to thunderstorms once or twice a year, usually in summer.

We had one of the most severe thunderstorms in a quarter century recently here in Phoenix, and there was no signal loss in my Sirius the entire time the storm was hitting us. Possibly a weakened or dying antenna might lose signal.
 
Since getting my Sirius radio last June, I have driven from Southern Ontario to the Gulf Coast and lots of places in between. I've never had a rain fade, and I remember driving through two very intense thunderstorms with very heavy downpours and lots of lightning. Only the occasional overpass knocks it out, and then only if you're moving slowly such as in heavy traffic. I had been curious about the rain fade too and was relieved to see it is apparently not an issue.
 
No rain fade for us either and we've had both our Sirius receivers for over two years.
 
I've had Sirius for over a year and 9 months now, and never had problems with heavy downpours or with snow. I have found it odd that while I'm not aware of any electricity running to the antenna, when there's snow on the roof, covering the antenna (laying flat on my metal roof), that's the first place it melts.
 
I've had SIRIUS in me car for over 2 years. Only once have I lost signal due to rain fade and it was the heaviest/craziest downpour/storm I can ever remember driving through in my life! :) It only lasted a min or 2 at most. No biggie. 99.9% of the other rain showers/storms I have driven through have had no signal loss. ;D
