Raleigh Area Spanish Stations

With all the changes in the market lately, I'm totally confused. What Spanish stations are there in the Raleigh-Durham area? A friend needs to connect with a local bilingual DJ for a project.

There are several others, but all on the AM band. The aforementioned WETC simulcasts on WDUR 1490 in Durham. There's also WRTG 1000 in Garner (I believe they're part of Que Pasa), WLLQ 1530 in Chapel Hill (which simulcasts on 1060 WGSB in Mebane and WLLN 1370 in Lillington), WTIK "La Mega" 1310 in Durham www.lameganc.com, and their new sister station, Spanish Christian WRJD/Durham "Poder" 1410.

Additionally, on the FM, Chapel Hill's non-commercial low power WCOM-LP 103.5 broadcasts a significant amount of programming in Spanish.

Thanks for the information. There are a couple of stations you've mentioned that I've never heard of. He's looking for someone to do some voice work, so there may be someone at one of these stations who can help him out.

How much of a headache will WZKT bring to WIST if they switch to Spanish? Let's don't even talk about the similarities in call letters.

Station call letters really don't mean a whole lot in the Spanish market, but really for Norsan they might need a full box of Goodies Powder!

WZTK and WIST are not similar letters.

I'd like to see the old WIST come back! WBRF has too many signal problems around here.

WIST had a certain amount of audience in the Triad that most likely should have been picked up by WBRF when WIST went Hispanic but that did not happen. On the other hand WIST did not pick up the Hispanic audience left by CC when they switched. With the addition of WZKT into the GSO as Hispanic there will be some changes in the market. Curtis has a history with Hispanic and knows how to make money! Sanchez now has a new headache in this market similar to the headache WNOW gives them in Charlotte.

There is plenty of Spanish programming in the Triad and perhaps Curtis will stand out from the crowd if they're able to localize WZTK. You have in the am band 790 (Norsan Charlotte) 980 (Christian) 1040 (Christian) 1070 (Christian) 1380 (WNOW Charlotte) 1470 (WNOW Charlotte) 1500 (Saucedo Winston Salem) 1590 (Que Pasa Winston Salem) and in the FM band you have 98.3 (Norsan Charlotte). None of them have done anything like CC did with La Preciosa in the area of ratings or revenue. Again, hopefully Curtis will do something different with La Ley 101.1

They seem to be doing well on 96.9, and the 101.1 signal allows them to not only cover the Triad but also the parts of the Triangle where 96.9's signal isn't so strong (96.9 is licensed to Goldsboro, and its signal is more concentrated in that direction).

They're doing good, really they're doing great in the Raleigh Market, but remember...the big fall of every station is not sound local to it's audience, and I don't mean just mentioning a City or an event in the area. Local presence...Localization of the station is important, IMHO.
