So listening to the mornings this past week at WPTF I'm wondering if Phil Zachary is kicking himself... apparently the guy filling in for Jack Boston was a finalist for the position and lost it to Jack. I'm sorry Jack is sick, and there's no way of saying this without sounding like a cruel human being, but they really chose the wrong person. The guy on the air (Mike Butz?) sounds like he's been on the station forever, he's natural, has chemistry with Lisa and just is an all around better host than Jack...even better than the morning guy before that! I can't help but wonder if Phil will come to his sences and find a way to correct his mistake?? Any thoughts? ???
 
Jack only had one day. However he hasn't had a morning success since the hey day of wdlx and that was as much the station at the time as it was Jack.
 
I'd be surprised if there wasn't input from programming, sales, and upper management in deciding who got the gig. Phil surely participated in the selection, but I doubt he made the decision solo. So is it fair to hold the gun only to his head?
 
Yeah - I know there are always more than one person involved in a decision such as that... Sorry for the over-simplification! But P.Z. is the one with the name on the door so I used that name! I guess I should have said that Curtis Media must be kicking themselves! I've heard Jacks an awesome guy, really decent, and it sucks that this happend to him (again - over simplification). I just don't think he should have switched to talk..I liked him at the other station better - he's a music format guy, definately.

Yeah..that'd be a great PR move! Blow a guy out with leukemia after just one show.

Mike Butts was a good Top 40 morning guy in the 70s, but he just tanked the biggest FM signal in Iowa - the station that's there now is a jockless one moved from an inferior signal that beat the heck out of Butts, Laurence, and Co.

Hopefully this venture will lead to better success for Butts. He's overdue.

Meanwhile, canning Jack Boston after one DAY? Not bright. (And I would guess contract-prohibitive...)
