Raleigh-Durham Ratings July 2024

  • Foxy 107/104, Mix 101.5, and 106.1 FM Talk take the top three spots, each improving 0.3 share over last month.
  • WUNC and 96.1 BBB down slightly, but still 4th and 5th in the 'horse race', respectively.
  • 94-7 QDR looking better over the past two books, while iHeart country competitor B 93.9 not so much (2.5, down nearly a full share from June after several months of fairly consistent numbers).
  • Kix 102 is trending down after a successful run over the past nearly two years. The AM WKIX "Oldies 850" has its fourth book with at least a 1 share.
  • G-105 seems to have steadied the ship after some record lows in late '22 and 2023. CHR competitor Pulse FM trending slightly up but four spots below G.
  • While Radio One's Foxy is on top, the other two stations in their cluster are more middle of the pack, K 97.5 down nearly a share but consistent with the past five months while The Light 103.9 is slightly up and very consistent as well.
  • 99.9 The Fan is down half a share after a consistent few months, while sister sports formatted Buzz (WDNC 620/WCLY 1550) gets hash marks this time around (only 600 cume!). While it's HD only, I'm interested to see next month if iHeart pulls any kind of numbers now that they're airing Fox Sport Radio on WTKK 106.1-2.
  • WPTF seems to have traded a tenth of a share with WRAL News Plus (0.6 vs 0.5) from June, but one's a once-mighty 50kW AM about to turn 100 and the other, while it shares the legacy news brand of top-rated WRAL, is--aside from Durham Bulls-- essentially a TV simulcast of their channel 34 news channel on two FM translators and an HD-3.

Honestly those numbers probably represent a true success for WRAL News Plus and more than I ever thought it would get. It's literally just the audio feed of a product being produced for OTT/mobile/web consumption. Gravy on the potatoes.
