Interestingly out of all the Radio-Info boards I frequent, the Raleigh board is the first and only one where anyone has asked for a definition of anything associated with my name and signature. I asked about WPTF’s numbers, and although the question at hand is completely off topic in relation to the Raleigh ratings, I will address the question relating to my signature since it seems to be of such interest to a chosen few.
First, it has nothing to do with Esquire magazine as I am not associated directly with any publishing company. I am, however, a media broker and consultant. In other words I sell radio and television stations to a variety of buyers and I also represent an even more diverse group of media sellers.
In addition to the title “Esquire” found in my signature, which those of you who have asked about it have obviously noticed, there is also a web-link -
www.jmtillery.com found beneath my actual name. Clicking on that link and viewing the website associated with it will fully explain the business I am engaged in and what I do.
To be more specific regarding the Esquire definition, Esquire is a term of British origin. In the UK, it is a title of respect previously accorded to gentlemen of higher social rank but which has since come to be used, with no precise significance, as a general courtesy title for any man in a formal context. Since I have British roots from my father’s side of my family, I have adopted the term Esquire as part of my ancestry.
In final, The America Bar Association has unofficially adopted the term Esquire to identify attorneys at law although non-attorneys may use the term so long as the person using the term Esquire does not hold themselves out to be a licensed and practicing attorney at law.
I trust the above detailed explanation answers the question to all those interested regarding the title Esquire and why it is associated with my name found in my signature.
