Look 'em up yourself, but the trend was NOT CMG's friend.

QDR and PTF down more than a share from the last report. 96 Rock down. La Ley and Y 102.9 up slightly. La Ley threatening to pass QDR by the end of the book 12+.

RAL continues downward spiral. Movin' seems to be catching on.

WRDU disappears and 96 goes down?

Spend a whole bunch of money on Rooster TV and it sinks to an all time low 12+ number?

RAL deserves a low ball, never heard such a bad station. Six months is a long time without a PD. Who is that GM?

Radio One is dancing a jig.

I can say that right? jig?

Imus what a JERKY BOY, but he's not half of what Al and Jesse might be. MSNBC total overreact. Suspension is answer.

What will they do at the Buzz if Imus goes away? Adam Gold to morning drive? Mike and Mike? Czaban?

Trends are not "weighted", and are not a balanced representation of the market.
Could have been a lot of diaries from Chatham County.
Or, a lot of Hispanic diaries. You just never know for sure.
Even Arbitron cautions it's subscribers that they don't stand by the trends from a statistical standpoint.

Only when the Quarterly report comes out do you get a reasonably accurate picture.

Don't get overly excited over a trend. UNLESS I'M NUMBER ONE! Then....

In my opinion (I hope I am wrong), 850 The Buzz, will wait out the Imus situation. If Don is allowed to return to the air, naturally some Liberal Minded Stations will not carry his show. "We would not want to offend our audience"!!!

Once again, I hope I am wrong. I feel that the "P-Whipped" 850 will go along with the majority of the Country.
Get a backbone 850, do not give in to pressure!!!!

Sincerely,
Stuart Greenberg
Chapel Hill, NC Imus listener from 1978

I would hope CBS will stand by Imus - I mean, they stood by Stern for dozens of years!

It amazes me the number of pundits who are calling Imus a journalist! He is an entertainer and comedian (of sorts).

Anyone remember the phone call to McDonalds years ago?

"1200 Hamburgers to Go."

Something else Imus is not: "Shock Jock."

You are right about the lack of "shock".

Of course you remember "Holyland USA"?

I guess it depends on how you define a "shock jock". I would not put Imus in the same category as Stern, Mancow, Opie & Anthony, etc. He is, and has always been more mainstream. Sure he does things that might offend some people, but that is a long way from be a shock jock. Take the Jerry Falwell character, for example.

"jocks" play music on the radio. Stern and Imus ceased being radio "jocks" years ago. Shock Talk more appropriate (if you are indeed "shocked"). Back in his WNBC days when he was doing his Bill Sol Hargis routine, Imus was FUNNY.

Well, it looks like the time to find out what The Buzz does is here: CBS Radio has just dumped Don Imus...

two questions: Is this the only thing he has done/said that was "offensive"?
and was this the best thing for CBS or the worst thing they could have done?

I don't usually go out into deep water when it comes to these kind of things, but dammit; this is just bull.
If CBS got this bent out of shape of two or three words...They should never meet our hometown hero on 105.1 in the morning.

He was ironically the first person I thought of when I heard the news about Imus
-hmmm, I wonder why ::)

sorry if i sound harsh. But jeeze. People! chill out...

Imus has been edgy and offensive for years. It was part of his act. Of course, he offended everyone!

I was thinking this morning about this! What is the difference in Imus' name-calling in connection with the Rutgers Women's Basketball team and Jessie Jackson's use of Himey Town to refer to the people of New York. Here are the differences I could come up with:

1- The number of people - 10-12 basketball players vs 8-million people in NYC.
2- The comment was directed towards the people on the team - was the Himey Town remarked just directed at the city, or at the people in the city? (NY population about 13% Jewish - compared to 34% Catholic).
3- Jackson was off the map for a few days, but continued to make money without having a job? Imus lost two jobs.

Imus will be back in some form. I suspect his buddy at Sirius might find him a channel.

This was not the only time, or the second time, or the third. Imus past is filled with this. He tries a new one out regularly. He just finally went over the invisible line. If ya still want to hear this kind of crappy speak just turn on Jamz. Plenty of it there.

Talk about the double standard. Maybe Al and Jessie should flip around the dial a bit!
