News & Observer: 'The Buzz' ditches ESPN

In a nutshell: WRBZ was pressured to carry ESPN Radio programming such as Cowherd. The owner said that the station, which already has the syndicated Rome show as well as Imus, "don't want to be a syndicated jukebox all day long".<P ID="signature">______________

Good for them! I give Adam Gold and Billy McClatchey both gold stars!

Need more people like that, especially here in Cleveland. Here, Salem - the family-friendly, religous broadcast chain - believe that they can get away with as little local programming as possible at WKNR-AM. Remember that WKNR actually used to be a decent sports station back in the day. It's painful to hear what Salem's done to that station.

BTW, WRBZ will replace ESPN with FSR, but solely on an overnight basis.

Given the huge amount of college and pro sports in and close to the Triangle area, I see this as a good move, too.

Good move for the Buzz. The glut of those so-called "syndicated jukeboxes" is partly what's hurting radio these days.

Nate - There you go again not checking your facts. Fox Sports Radio will be heard from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. every weeknight outside of play-by-play...the SAME schedule that ESPN said. In addition, FSR will be on all weekend long except for play-by-play and a few weekend morning specialty shows.

That sounds like a lot more than overnights to me.
