Rally for former the Q105 Jocks!

Not my idea, so I take no credit for it whatsoever, but, folks over on the website (copyhttp://blogs.tampabay.com/media/2008/12/more-on-air-cut.html have started talking about having a tribute/rally for the former Q105 DJs we so sorely miss! If you'd like to go, leave a note here ... and also contact Eric Deggans at the St. Pete Times to see if he could be a part of the soiree and perhaps do a story on why, weeks later, we are STILL talking about Q-105! Posts from the www.tampabay.com website are listed below ......

Fired talent -- I would love to speak with you on monday when i return to the office. feel free to ring me up at 727-893-8521 or email [email protected].

This goes out to all the fired talent, as well as, all the fired support staff!

YES, we all are reading this...

Each and everyone of you are the best, the most talented people, and it's an honor to know everyone of you!!

No matter what CBS has done, we all will make it through this, and come back even stronger in 2009!

Thank you to all the listeners too!

Not sure how many people are reading this - how many are still ticked off and aren't aware of this? Is Eric Deggans still reading this? Can we get some kind of rally together? Would be great to get Jojo Walker (the REAL Jojo), Bill, Marvin, Rico and Mike all together and rally. Not sure if Mason would be "allowed" to come. Maybe a rally at Quaker Steak and Lube one night? A mighty show of fans of the REAL Q105? What say you?

I think this too is a FAN freakin' TASTIC idea , Baby Boomer. Positive, Pro Active and might even turn out to be fun.

Why don't you personally E mail Mr Deggans , inform him of your idea, and let him know we are we are still reading, sharing ideas. I feel sure that he probably still is reading and in tune, yet he does have a full plate.

This has my "AYE", fellow Senators !!! Thanks, B B !!!!

DEAR FIRED STAFF >>>Could any of you guys/ladies maybe tip us off as to which establishment would be into enthusiastically hosting a rally in your momentum ?? ..E G Quaker Steak, as Da Boomer suggested? All "political" stuff aside , them being open & willing to freely express that they support getting you back on the air as much as we the fans do???

I think that , if orderly and properly executed, THIS would be an untouchable event of spirit, and a great story for our "host" Eric Deggans.I read everything he writes now. Hats off, Mr Deggans.

And personally, I hope that Mason would come. He's got to miss you (professionally and personally ) just as much, and His after hours should not be delegated by anyone except he and his family ( Shelties included...)
Respects to all, your Still Excitable Boy..I SURE MISS YOU.

Posted by: DEAR FIRED STAFF WHO KNOWS | January 12, 2009 at 02:31 PM

Hey ... count me in too. As mentioned above, if executed in a professional, positive manner, this event would certainly send a message to the new PD, and a positive, "we miss you!" message to our friends who are no longer on the air. Yes - please send this to Mr. Deggans (I am so sorry I thought you were an Erica, not an Eric ... my bad!) I'm going to copy this into the radio-info website as well!

If you would like to go to an event being organized at Quaker Steak & Lube, check out the thread below. It is being held to say thank you to the fired talent (some of whom are scheduled to show up) and to let them know that we still support them and miss them. http://blogs.tampabay.com/media/2008/12/more-on-air-cut.html
QUAKER STEAK & LUBE was recently on the list of the 'Dirty Dinings" on Channel 28. Just wanted to share this.

Yes it was...and Bill Church the owner has done all that can be done to correct this. He now has a clean bill of health and grade a food. It seems that the tv stations, namely channel 28 that did the story, never did a follow up...the tv sweeps were over so why bother, they already did a hatch job on the guy. I know Bill personally and he assures me that all has been taken care of that the tv news crew took time to cover, of course, why bother once all is corrected? There is no story if he clean!

that's the tv news game for you. just look at the 'leader of local news' it's more like 'American Idol' promo station. Tune into their morning show and all you get is how great american idol is. New? they don't do any except fluff pieces.....last night, with school districts slashing budgets all over the bay, what did 'tampa bay's news leader' have on? a concert coming up in february that features, you guessed it, a former American Idol contestant......

How right you are, MusicMan 11; I normally don't watch Fox/Faux owned and operated channel 13, but did have the misfortune of trying to watch it last night and you're right, it was as though I was watching an informercial for American Idol; after a few minutes of that, I switched to WWSB channel 40 to find that there were some real news items going on in the bay area.

Regrettably Channel 13/Fox 13 is a shadow of it's former self.

Baby Boomer here - found this blog thanks to a person on the other one that gave me the link. Still waiting to hill from Bill Church on a date. Then I can give it to Eric Deggans of the Times for his article. Will spread the word on both blogs once I have it. So far JoJo, Bill and Rico are on board and JoJo is contacting Marvin and Mike.
We are going to need a very strong show of support for these guys - this is not a "farewell" this is (if I can steal from the movie Network) WE ARE MAD AS HELL AND NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!! We want our guys back on the air. The power of all of the listeners and fans will be heard.

Re: Rally for former the Q105 Jocks! update

Just keeping you all updated: heard from Quaker Steak and Lube and he is trying to contact Mason to see if he is able to get involved with this. As soon as I get any more info or the exact date I will let you all know. Thanks for keeping this blog up and all the encouragement! This WILL happen.
We will rock you!

CBS could reinstate everybody, keep who they hired, and come out better.

6------Mason, JoJo, and Bill
10------Marvin Boone
2-------Mike Reeves
6--------Jack Miller
10-------Jo Jo Kincaid
2---------Nikki Cruz

Scott Walker does week-ends and remains PD
Tom Kent does overnights Sat,Sun,and Mon.

Oops , it's not 1965. My mistake.

i listen to the Q a lot on the weekends when i am working around the house. One jock i have not seen mentioned here is ric russo. He's worked weekends at the Q for quite some time, filled in for jack from time to time on the 70s at 7 at night too, and he is still on the air there.

i just heard him two sundays ago, i guess he survived the cutbacks?

Just want to make this clear - this is NOT a farewell. This is a rally to support our DJ friends and to let CBS Radio know how many listeners/fans there are out there that are not happy about the changes.
We want to let them know that we want them ALL back on the air. We WILL rock you!

You're right, Boomer! Anybody know anybody else over at Max 98.3? Invite them as well so that we may lobby our fantastic idea to build wealth for their station by giving the Bay area some great talent to accompany great music!

UPDATE: Rally for former the Q105 Jocks!

Update:
Received email from Quaker Steak's Bill Church. He has not yet received a response from Mason (he sent email to his wife Pat.)
Received email from JoJo Walker, and unfortunately Mike Reeves will not be able to attend. He is pretty sure that Marvin will be there along with Marc Haze.
Will keep you all posted!

Rally for former the Q105 Jocks! TENTATIVE DATE

RALLY - TENTATIVE DATE: Okay, we have a tentative date of Feb. 28th. So pencil in that date on your calendars. Just waiting to hear from JoJo if it's good for all of them and then I will confirm with Bill at Quaker Steak and Lube and then let you all know for sure.
Rock on! ;D

Looking like the date will be February 21st but will give you the confirmation as soon as I get it. In the meantime please keep blogging and sending out the emails!
Thank you.
We WILL rock you!!!!
Rock on!

Rally - date and time confirmed!

Rally for former Q105 DJ's. Date and Time Confirmed!
This will be at Quaker Steak and Lube at 49th St N and US 19 - Pinellas Park, FL.
Date and Time for Rally - Confirmed!
It will be Saturday, February 21 from noon to 4. It is also going to coincide with a happy hour with the Tampa Bay Parrotheads who I am sure quite a few are Q105 fans also.
So please pass the word - we want a HUGE crowd! And keep send the emails and blogs! We will ROCK you!
Rock on!

Great job, Boomer! I look forward to meeting you and others who share the sentiment that a connection with local talent is just as important as the music. Did you contact the Parrotheads to let them know what is going on? I'm sure quite a few of them were Q-105 listeners ... plus, they like good causes for local folks!

I LOVED Q105. Sadly past tense. It reminded me of Top 40 radio when I was growing up. The jocks were relatable and funny and the music was a great mix. Now. . . just sounds like piped in oldies format that's TOO OLD for me. I miss it and there is nothing out there that even comes close to taking it's place. Hope I can make it to the rally. I split time between Atlanta and Tampa and if I can't make it, I'll be there in spirit.

Someone mentioned that the Q jocks except for Mason do not talk to the traffic or weather people, nor do a hand-off. Could Scott and Jo Jo be VT'ing their shows? Just wondering. Sometimes it sounds like it. Yes, big time Top 40 stations did not scream all the time, not even in the Sixties. Sometimes, but not all the time. For every Dick Biondi, there was a Casy Kasem or a Harry Harrison. Sorry CBS. You should know this.
