Wow, their ratings were in the toilet!
Does Fox Talk or Stars have anything redeeming?

Wow, I can already imagine how bad Starz is.Garrett said:Starzzzzz is a different matter, but with similar problems contributing. It didn't help that they were on the rim shot signal for most of their life, with a format that really requires some sound quality. Then there are the demands from the top: It was Ray's call having Lou Dee and his wife, as a favor to them when Kool 98 let them go. Ray really had no say in the matter, so you've got a 50s and 60s Oldies era PD in charge of an AC format in the 2000's. Suffice it to say that didn't work. A consultant was called in to "fix" things, and of course, having used up whatever budget they had, Brad refused "to spend another red cent" unless the station made some money on its own. Soon they were filled with all the Rick Dees, Ryan Seacrest John Tesh and Delilah you can stand. After 10 AM, there isn't a single live person on the whole station. So you have this strong market signal, with no live jocks, no promotions budget (no piggy backing allowed because of self imposed non-competes), and a format that favors an older audience. Yeah, not exactly a formula for making $$$ or ratings.

I literaly have ran out of bad things to say about Delilah
Ryan Secrest, there is something about him that I don't like
John Tesh, the only good thing has comed out of him was the NBA Playoff Theme songs that ruled over the 90's.
Just sad how local radio is no longer local!
Garrett said:FoxTalk has one of the best PD's in the business, but his hands are being tied because of fiscal constraints. For some reason, Ray and his son Brad insist on being debt free. That means that they allocate their budget for specific needs, and that's it. I have no idea why the station runs without credit, but I remember when I worked there years ago, it made it difficult to get certain things taken care of that at other stations would just be normal operation procedure. Added to that is a rule that the Morans implemented that "no station is allowed to rely on anything not owned by RAMAR." For example, Z102 is free to advertise on Fox34, if it means Fox34 sold a spot, but Fox Talk, Magic, Hot or Stars cannot advertise on Channel 11, 13, or 28. No radio station in the RAMAR chain is allowed to partner with any non-RAMAR owned TV station (so FoxTalk, etc, cannot partner with say, Channel 28 or any PR event that has a 28 personality involved). On the other hand, It's ok for Z102 or KFYO to partner with Fox34, because, (again), Fox34 benefits. (You see a pattern here, with TV being the priority, right?).
So as you can imagine, this really makes it difficult. Imagine that you have no advertising budget, and cannot piggy back some other station to reach outside your own domain. That's the problem with FoxTalk! The PD there did everything he could, and stuff that would have made his station number one in most major markets (if this were San Diego, we'd be talking about FoxTalk950 as the station to beat).

As for Hot, I think that's largly an attempt to get back what they lost when they flipped Kiss. A better shot with the great Chuck Hinze involved, but still not a great signal, and in a format category (Urban CHR) that is already heavily saturated (if you include Z102) for a market of 200,000+ in my opinion.
Can't speak about Magic, but I imagine they are just the heritage Tejano station so they run on autopilot. They also seem to be the darling of RAMAR, next to Fox34. When I was at Kiss, they had big billboards that nobody else had.
