Here's my question... what does 950 fill with when the TechTalk Boys move over to the other gig?

would you be surprized if it was another syndicated talk show?

No big deal there, they will probably just get others to sub, just like is done on W & H (or as i like to call it, the Ryan Hyatt show)

i got an idea! Blake & Meredith. ::)

Wow that Blake and Meredith show is awful...no other way to describe it.

My question is this, if Tech sports were such an albatross, why did Gap fight to keep the rights? Not trying to start anything, I really am curious.

Judging from the outcome, it does not seem to me that GAP put up much of a fight at all!
But I will also say that under the previous GM, Texas Tech sports would never have jumped either. Which leads me to suspect that at least some of the philosopy was more about keeping Ramar from being a threat. We'll see...

What I'm wondering about now is the future of the Williams and Hyatt show. Would they ever go back to Ramar?

when Ramar is offering up an FM station totally devoted to sports and also TT sports along with some TV thats hard to beat, gap was outbid. Ramar will probably get W&H back and they should also find a place for jack dale.

Really, after what happened at their old station?

nothing yet, but IF it does Ramar might be the likely outcome for them.

Can you elaborate? I'd like to know more about how that came about- that is, if you are at liberty to share such...

There is no way that Hyatt would move his show over there. It will not happen.

As for the other show, why in the world would Ramar want that show? Steve Dale is probably one of the big reasons that Ramar got the TTU rights.

i never mentioned "Steve" did i, but you're correct, one probably wouldn't go without the other. and Ramar wouldn't want to go there, but Jack is a nice guy and i would like to see him land somewhere.

Cspot knows the story, he can fill us in, can't you Cspot?

this is a BS board! all of us know nothing, its all speculation and opinion.

Stumped ya, did I?

So you admit that you don't know anything about this stuff, eh?
All guesses huh?

Guess what, you presume too much about the other people who post here.

i've yet to see any items posted here presented as FACT, so take everything with a grain of salt.

Tech or certain powerful coaches.... do not want to have ANYTHING to do with Steve Dale. Which is unfortunate for Jack. Jack is a great man and a great broadcaster. As long as certain powerful coaches are with Tech... Jack Dale will not be over at Ramar or Tech sports. I only say this because with Jack comes Steve... because Steve couldn't do it on his own. Yet, with this being said... Jack deserves to be hooked up with Tech Sports where ever it is.

However, what the hell do I know.

As someone on the outside looking in attempting to land the PD job with Ramar I have a few questions. I realize much of this board is speculation but I feel like I could get some facts with my first question.

Radio-locator lists 104.3 as 30K watts, so why the comments about a weak signal? And I believe as I listen to the announcement right now they just said it is 50K watt.

Several comments about coaches running the show? How much room will a PD have to be critical of the programs? Or will everything have to be generic Red Raider talk? We love the team, everything will be fine, oh they didn't play bad today and so on.

Will the community be receptive to outside hosts coming in (say some up and comers from Dallas, Houston, Austin who aren't big enough for the market) or are they going to want all local people who have lived in Lubbock from 10 years.

Any advice is welcome.

Well it is not unusual for stations to claim 50Kw when it is really only 20 or 30. On the other hand, Radio locator is known to have inaccuracies.
Either way, 104.3 does have signal problems, because their signal is not in Lubbock. They are licensed to Brownfield, which is 50 miles southwest of Lubbock. In addition, having worked at 104.3, I also know that the transmitter has always had trouble. I don't know if they have made any changes to it since 1998. However, I do the Sony Walkman test, (can it come in on my Walkman), which 104.3 seems to fail north and east of the city. In fact, I have a hard time getting 104.3 at my house, and I live accross the street from KJTV. 97.3 has a better city grade signal now, but is at reduced power, and fades just north of the city. 93.7 has no issues.

These are my experiences, individual results may vary.

KSTQ is licensed for 50kW, but as Garret has said, they may not be broadcasting at that power.

Still, even at 30kW, with their transmitter in Ropes, they should be putting a better signal into Lubbock.

My info is from the FCC btw.
