Ranch get's it Right with Justin Frazell Hire

D

The Ranch launched their new morning show with former KPLX/Wolf on air guy Justin Frazell.

From Justin's FB:

Starting Monday, December 21st, 2009, Justin Frazell takes over as morning host on The Sound of Texas 95.9 The Ranch

The problem with the Ranch is simple: a format few want to listen to.

Now that its tiny sister station, KXEZ, is playing classic country, that station is finally showing some ratings.

KTFW is their sister station, didn't know the kxez was. You cant here ktfw in dallas and instead have to listen to kxez on the same freq. ktfw has been "old" country forever. It does it much better than kxez. (i'm right between the two and can rotate the antenna and listen to one or the other).

So they should just copy KPLX and KSCS??? For the people they DOOO reach in FW and places west...the "Texas country" is a better product than Nashville

Re: Ranch get's it Right with Justin Frazell Hire--real problems

The real problems at the Ranch starts with it's General Manager. He is a complete and absolute DB. I mean DB's of DB's. Like Massengill's parent company is owned by his parents. That aside, the signal is getting fixed. Ranch bought stick in Jacksboro with a CP to increase kW.

Heywood is a great fella. People don't know this, but Hugh (Heywood) was actually the founding father of the ranch. He found the deal in Mineral Wells, he rounded up the money, and he put The Ranch together.

The Ranch needs more power, keep Heywood in some form, and loose Jerry. Their ratings suck, and it's all Jerry's fault. There, I said it. sorry but it needed to be said

You're ABSOLUTELY right about that! Not sure where they found that GM but he EPITOMIZES what is wrong with radio today.

The Ranch was much better when they sprinkled in true Country artists like George Strait (Texan, but considered too successful, I guess), Dwight Yoakam and Dierks Bentley (before his last album, anyway). The "only Texas Country" is very restrictive and gets boring quick.

Sorry, I goofed.

The Range, The Ranch ...

I'll write it a thousand times on the blackboard.

My comment about The Range stands however. Americana is only a niche format, and barely that.

When done right, it's MUCH more than a niche and can create a VERY solid base of fans that actually support advertisers and actually have money to spend. I just cannot see an Americana/AAA working in a market that loves strip malls, chain restaurants, and cookie cutter houses as much as DFW.

So who owns "The Possum"? I feel sorry for that poor station...I
personally love country music, well, at least the 80-90's stuff...and
even many of the classics...not that much of the new decade
"current" music...but nevertheless, this station is so ungodly redneck,
even for me....a southern born and bred Atlanta boy...I mean, goodness..
I expect them to kick off their music hour with Grandpa whistling Dixie
on a moonshine jug...it just makes me cringe...

KXEZ just runs Dial-Global's 24/7 classic country feed.

Since most stations running a 24/7 satellite format are rural, I suspect that what drives some of that...
