Randall Bloomquist Leaving Cumulus

Randall Bloomquist is said to be leaving the Corporate PD position at Cumulus.

He has been guiding News Radio 106-7 for the past year. He brought in Michael Graham, who worked for him at WMAL in Washington when it was owned by Disney/ABC. Back in 2005, Graham was fired by WMAL for calling Islam a terrorist group and refusing to apologize on the air. Supposedly Bloomquist quit his job in protest because he wanted to keep Graham.

He also programmed WBT in Charlotte and WGST here in Atlanta during his career.

So what's next for 106-7?
 
Nash Icon....Since they gave up all news and trying to compete with WSB as a talker is useless

Lots of markets, including Kansas City, have 3 country stations.

The key thing is Nash Icon is not a hot country station. It's more of a 90s country station. That's not being done in Atlanta now.
 
It exists on 98.9 which is a horrible signal for the country audience
 
250 watts is a little misleading for 98.9 since its antenna height is almost 1,000 feet above average terrain. Despite that, it does have a far inferior signal to Cumulus' 97.9, also 250 watts from the same tower. That's probably a function of what else is on the frequency.

98.9's format has been the flavor of the month since it signed on. Other formats on 98.9 have gotten much better 6+ numbers than Nash. Does any market have a Nash Icon that's getting good ratings?

Since both stations operate from the same tower and power on different frequencies but have different signal qualities, does frequency affect the signal quality of a station. For example, do two different stations on two different frequencies from the same tower, height, and power go out further or have better quality than the other on different ends of the FM spectrum or do they have the same quality regardless if they are at 88FM or 108FM?

On AM, that would be the case but not on the FM band.

I'm guessing the comment about Bloomquist quitting his job is in reference to his time at WMAL. Although I find it shocking he would have the gumption to actually do such a thing, it is quite possible.

To be clear on the matter, Randall didn't "leave" Cumulus in as much as he was forced to leave. After all, how many people quit the highest post they've ever had in a year's time when they don't have a job? A cursory inspection of his twitter feed makes obvious he is unemployed.

Close friends from Dallas tell me he was caught doing some things he shouldn't be doing with another staff member, and now they are both jobless.

I always found Randall to be a bit of a puppet, enamored with simplistic catchphrases that don't solve problems. His twitter feed has that on full display.

My guess is he'll be blackballed from this industry as his antics in what I believe was the San Francisco market are no secret to those responsible for hiring.
