Arbitron numbers are out of the top three markets.
Despite evicting Air America Radio three weeks before the survey period ended, New York's WLIB held steady just outside a fractional average quarter hour share. The New York Daily News' David Hinckley provided some breakdowns of the overall numbers, which show Randi Rhodes in PM drive with a share 50 per cent greater than the station's overall share.
In LA, progressive talker KTLK recorded a 30 per cent drop in its fractional overall AQH share, for its lowest share in the past year. In Chicago, rim-shot progressive talker WCPT's fractional share dropped 45 per cent. Both stations compete with Salem news-talkers and both trail them slightly.
Top conservative talker WABC held steady in New York. In LA, right-wing talker KFI suffered a big drop (greater than a full share point). In Chicago, WGN with a local-live schedule based on personality more than ideology showed a good gain (almost back to where it was last summer, before a big drop in the fall). 'GN with the Cubbies tend to do well in the summer but Sun-Times radio writer Robert Feder reports morning host Spike O'Dell "led the way" with a morning drive share 48 per cent greater than the station's overall share. Conservative and partly syndicated talker WLS holds steady, trailing 'GN by more than two full points; with in the strongest daypart, beating the station's overall share by a full point.
In North Jersey, NJ101.5, a station which may presage talk radio's future, cotinues to rule. The FM lifestyle talker beats WABC by two full points (and MUCH better demos).
