I know there have been some threads on the "quality" of Talkers' magazine....I don't read it monthly but was curious if she was the first progressive talker on the cover or??????

If you read talkers, maybe highlight the article please.......thanks in advance..

I guess AAR sold enough bumper stickers that they could buy an ad in Talkers.
Like many trade publications, Talkers tends to promote advertisers.

(And a pretty face too!)

Completely bogus statement. Doug Stephan is progressive, doesn't advertise and was recently featured on the cover, along with Michael Harrison: April 2005 Talkers

I think it's just hard for some people to accept that Randi Rhodes is talented and influential. (And a pretty face too!)

A lot of extremists are talented and influential.

Laura Ingraham, for example. Another blonde pretty face.

And both of these ladies drive me up the wall when on the
radio. (I'm sure they're both nice off the air.)

Randi's screeching. Laura's sniggering.

The first election broadcast on the radio was also
the first one in which women could vote.

Downhill ever since.

Very simple, she was a key participant in the resurgence of liberal radio....she was one of the first people along with efforts from others like Sheldon Drobny and to approach the Democratic members of congress, testify, and to get them to take a real look at how conservatives had run off with talk radio and was using it to be effective in delivering their message. She got some movement and she was going to be the original resource for Democracy Now...the first organization that was designed and funded to provide a way to get a liberal nationaly exposed and on the air....She decided that she did not want to "owe" the democratic party if she accepted money from them...so she turned down the money...that Ed Schultz ended up taking to launch his national show....this was documented and revisited during her appearance on Q and A with Brian Lamb.

Before the AAR days, many dems looked to her show for exposure...and she has interviewed and supported many dems ....she is even more popular in liberal circles now...

She doesn't claim to have started the new liberal radio movement...but she has influence....her efforts also contributed to the launch of AAR which was the second organization to launch with the desire to bring the liberal/democratic view to the airwaves...

Like it or not, she is one of AAR's long term stars, along with Rachel Maddow.

A career on the uptick...

Well, she's no newcomer to talk radio, and unlike most on AAR she has professional qualities. She testified before the Senate on media monopoly. She has a lot of listeners who are exceptionally loyal.

I don't especially like her, but I recognize that her career is on the uptick. It's no surprise she made the cover of Talkers magazine.
______________

One correction for your post. You have confused (the new program with hosts Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez) with Democracy Radio (the former organization run by CEO Tom Athans).

...Stephan denies being a progressive. He has always claimed to be a moderate, which, compared to the all-fascists-all-the-time programming of most talk stations, looks progressive...
______________

It was actually a good piece (though Harrison should have edited the mutual
ass-kissing in the middle where Rhandi gushes about Harrison).

I hate to be so judgemental and superficial, but really.

I think you're drunk with admiration.
