Randi Rhodes Sent "Anthrax"

The Randi Rhodes Show was sent an envelope containing a powdery substance yesterday. Police and federal officials are investigating.

It seems to me that it should be news if a controversial political talk show host didn't receive crank threats from the loonies.

Hoax for pub?

Interesting that all this has started AFTER THE DEMS GOT CONTROL BACK.... (Seems ppl are very mad @ left wing talk show hosts)

Idiots

Crank threats against public figures have been going on forever. This isn't something that just started. As OhioMediaWatch said in the thread "Stephanie Miller receives hate-filled death threat letter", "As someone who's been somehow attached to news/talk radio for ages, most of it working around conservative hosts...EVERYONE gets death threats, on all sides. There are some mighty unbalanced people who spend too much time thinking the people on the radio are their friends - or sworn enemies. It has nothing to do with ideology, and everything to do with people not in control of their faculties."

That's another distinct possibility.

something doesnt smell right here..someone mails 'Anthrax' to a controversial talk host broadcsting OUT OF NYC and it doesn't make it above the fold?

Someone must have known or quickly determined that this was a fake package, or you would see guys in biosuits hosing off Rhodes and anyone else that may have come in contact with it!

Come to think of it, that might not be such a bad idea. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a hoax. Randi Rhodes seems to have no morals or ethics. This is the same woman who twice called for the President to be murdered. Any organization that would have an unrepentant lowlife like that on staff should be ashamed.

I'm telling you something doesn't add up here.

First, the only credible thing I could dig up was a pg 7 snippet from the NY Post, and that didn't even say the feds were involved!

http://www.nypost.com/seven/11142006/news/regionalnews/air_america_mail_scare_regionalnews_.htm

A credible mail attack on the heels of catching some nutbag that was mailing 'fakethrax' to Olberman, Pelosi, Letterman, and B Clinton would get more attention.

Here's a possible scenario: Rhodes ( who in the past has done numerous Anthrax related stories ) notices all the attention going to those listed above, and instructs an intern to mail some Tide detergent to her to try to weasel into the spotlight.

When the police arrive, they inform the FBI,and they immediately notice the address does not match the accused mailhoaxer. After the FBI arrives, it's clear it's not for real, and they ( the feds ) don't even bother to investigate further ( which would explain why this story went away as fast as it came ).

I'm not saying that's what happened, only what could have happened ;)

Stop reading right wing blogs for your news and you won't embarrass yourself with comments like this.

Or the FBI has asked people not to comment on this in detail while they investigate. That is what happened with Olbermann and Page Six ran it anyway. Without some actual proof to suggest the contrary, let's give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to these kinds of things. I really doubt they would involve the authorities in a hoax. We've seen people go to jail for that.

Is it really anthrax? I doubt it very much, but it's still serious.

Phillip--I don't read right-wing blogs but evidently you do. Her death wish for the President was reported elsewhere. She can claim she was joking all she wanted--murdering a President is something decent people do not joke about.

so serious nobody has heard about it for a week.

non-story bordering on hoax. In any case, it's not related to that nutbag that was mailing out Anthrax, or we would have heard more by now. Sorry Phil, like Randi, this story doesn't have legs. :D

I have heard Randi's show every day since it started. She never had a death wish for the president. This is a game of telephone where one report about a comedy bit got stretched into what you are talking about here. It's been an issue debated and discussed in here for over a year now. Check your facts.

Save the lectures about "checking your facts" for the New York Times. ;)

I heard the bit. It was in poor taste.

I stand by what I said.

If you didn't like the bit (or get the humor) tune in another talk station. If you live in a typical radio market. -- you have a choice of two or three right wing talk stations that adore Bush. One of these right wing talkers -- Rush Limbaugh -- even conceded that he has been "carrying the water" for Bush and the Republicans for the past few years. Also, if you don't like the New York Times you also check your facts in the Washington Times. It's called freedom of speech.

I did tune in another station. And if people want to listen to Randi Rhodes, fine. People are free not to as well. I thought her bit was in poor taste.

IF someone sent her anthrax, I'm sorry it happened--it was inappropriate.

As for the Washington Times, I think I have read it maybe three times in my life. Its slant is as obvious as are the slant and race-baiting of the New York Times.
