RANDI RHODES

Randi Rhodes has been picked up by Nova M after being given the heave-ho by (Hot) Air America for making untoward remarks about Hillary at a non-Air-America event. Station KKGN "Green 960" in Oakland/San Francisco (owned by Clear Channel) has already announced that they will be picking up Randi starting Monday. Meanwhile at KTLK, the webmaster is asleep at the switch and hasn't updated their site to reflect the fact that Randi is gone. I wonder what the chances are that Randi will resurface at KTLK (good, I hope).

I don't know if AAR gave Randi the "heave ho." What I hear is that they asked her to publicly apologize for her comments, and she refused, and then left. It's probably more along the lines of a mutual decision.

She'll be on Larry King Live tonight on CNN. We'll get her side of the story then.

There was some hyperbole in my use of the term "heave-ho", but I object to their taking her to task for something she said on her own time at an event not sponsored by AA. I don't think the incident had even received any news coverage or had been exploited by conservative talk hosts. Anyone aware of that happening?

Well, considering that she had the highest hour-by-hour cume of any show on the station, I'd say she has a better chance than anyone else would.

I think that she was fired or resigned because of the wrong reasons. She was not obligated for something said off the air which was what the crowd at the event probably wanted to hear. I am not a liberal talk fan because most of it is not very good. When I do listen I like Stephanie Miller because her show is amusing. I like Michael Jackson because he does interesting interviews, a talent not prevalent on either end of the political spectrum. I did not really care much for Randi but she was less boring than most and compared to Al Franken she is scintillating. Air America is dying anyway so maybe she is better off and she might even get more entertaining as well.

At its inception, and for a few years afterwards, Air America was the beneficiary of mountains of free publicity, ususally in the form of the press regurgitating their press releases nearly verbatim and then slobbering over themselves to heap praise on the network that had (very) few ratings success. It was obvious the liberal mainstream media were doing their best to prop them up.

Then came the whole Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Fiasco, when it was determined that AAR executives defrauded a NYC local Boys and Girls club out of $800,000 that was rightfully theirs and used it to pay for operations that had been losing mega-money from the beginning. Then the media (especially the NY Times) put their blinders on firmly so they can could play the "See no Evil, Hear no Evil" card and do their best to not report it. The fraud was repulsive, the intentional cover-up by the media even more so.

Since then, as more rating failures in city after city began piling up, the media quietly moved on to other causes, as they determined no amount of free positive publicity could help this outfit.

But positive news of any kind out of this operation has been very hard to come by for the last few years, as they continue to lose more affiliates, ratings continue to tumble, and they get booted off even their own NYC flagship. They have consistently been reducing their personalities and operating budgets as many of their affiliates, including the LA affiliate, only use one or a few of their produced shows. Al Franken left the sinking ship, but only after fleecing them for millions for a morning show next to nobody listened to.

Also, this is not the first issue Randi has had lately. Remember the well-orchestrated mugging of her on a NYC street by some "conservative operative" several months back after she left a bar in the wee hours of the morning? No? my point exactly - it wasn't widely reported at all. That was because the "conservative operative" accusation never came close to being plausible, much less proven. So the Bad News Air America Black-out is in full-effect. This new Rhandi episode is no exception.

It really is too bad, as Rhandi is one of the best friends the conservative movement has. The more she is heard, the more people are repulsed by her and tune her ideas off as well as her radio stations. Conservatives need Rhandi back on the air and should be doing all that they can to get her back on as soon as possible.

If Air America is indeed a sinking ship, perhaps it's one she needed to get off. Depending on the clearances she gets this could be a good thing for her. Perhaps KTLK will pick her up once the carrier pigeon arrives with the news of her availability.

Ed Schultz and Mr. K underperformed the station. Hartmann may be boring but he is second behind Rhodes on the station. I forget when exactly Ed got bounced off for good, but his numbers at night weren't too hot even considering no one listens to talk radio in those hours.

If she worked for me I'd wash her mouth out with a bar of soap. Then I would turn her over Gitmo for questioning.

Randi is staying on KTLK. She already has a new syndicator, Nova M, who also employ another Ex-Air America host Mike Malloy (Also on KTLK) What's unclear is how much longer K-TALK will be carrying what's left of the AA shows on their schedule.

Why do you want her back? That idiot is nothing more than an alcoholic left wing version of Ann Coulter. Do we really need TWO Ann Coulter's in this world? One is bad enough!
