Random, But Good Question

I have been meaning to ask this question for awhile now. But, why does Channel 10 use a WHAM Radio traffic reporter for traffic reports in the morning? And why does 13 WHAM use what seem to be random traffic reporters. Since 13 WHAM and WHAM Radio are partners shouldnt they be using the WHAM traffic reporters? I dont get how this works lol. If WHAM Radio is clear channel, and 13 WHAM is clear channel, then why not use the WHAM traffic reporter. And no its not because WHAM-TV is being sold, because channel 10 has been using a WHAM Radio reporter for years now.

You may have answered your own question at the very end of it. You say Channel 10's been using a WHAM traffic reporter "for years." I don't know how many years, but if it pre-dates the Ackerley/ClearChannel merger, then that could be the reason. There's a similar thing going on in Syracuse. WSYR-TV has been using an independent traffic reporter (who flies his own plane) since way back before the merger, while WTVH uses the CC "Total Traffic Network" reporter who does the reports for WSYR-AM.

Even if this weren't the case, CC's Total Traffic Network is made available to ANY station that wants it. And surprisingly, yes, there are some non-CC stations that use the service, even when they're in the same market with CC competitors. It's even more surprising that WSYR-TV and WHAM-TV still go outside of the company for their traffic reports, but they probably have their reasons.

I may be wrong, which I am a lot, but I believe that the other traffic network is being run by Tom George. And if that is the case Tom has an excellent reputation as both a hard-working broadcaster who knows his stuff, plus being a decent fellow. Nothing against CC's traffic operation, but knowing Tom and his work, if I was in charge of a broadcasting operation and looking for traffic reports, I would go with Tom.

Might be that Channel 10 had an existing contract with WHAM Radio for the traffic services which has yet to expire.

Justin James is doing traffic 13 WHAM News @ 5 and WHAM 1180,

And he's out of WSYR in Syracuse. Ssshhhh! Don't tell anyone...

I hope for your sake, none of you folks in Rochester have to endure the grating voice of Kathy Denman's traffic reports in the morning.

She is on 1180 WHAM and probably other C. C. stations.

And Barry Vee, who was doing traffic for WHAM and the CC traffic service in Rochester, is snow producinig Lonsberry's show. Does this mean that there is NO CC traffic service being done out of Rochester anymore? How much further can CC rape WHAM, and leave it a lifeless empty hulk of what it once was?
