Random NESN Red Sox Coverage.

I was just thinking... always a dangerous procedure ...

How come NESN doesn't keep the "Ball/Strike Count" up on the player at bat.
If you blink you miss it. Have to keep Sox Radio on for better coverage.
I would think that is the most important bit of information to be posted.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

How come NESN is missing so many first pitches because they come in late from a commercial or they are hyping "Mr. Cellophane", Eric Whatever...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

How come NESN's cameras always focus on some player spitting tobacco or some other substance. Heard Joe Garagiola on Fox 25 this morning say there is so much tobacco juice spit in the dugout at Fenway that you could get "cancer of the foot...".
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NESN only encourages young kids to take up this killer habit by focusing their cameras on it. They should tell the Sox they will cut away as they do when a fan runs out on the field if players continue to spit on the field on in the dugout.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some day a smart lawyer is going to turn around an sue NESN as well as the Red Sox for promoting chewing tobacco if he has a client who has contracted mouth cancer from Chew tobacco.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NESN and The Red Sox should make Fenway a "Chew Free Zone" or soon they will be held responsible for the kids picking up this killer habit.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parklane. I agree with you. NESN should be sued for showing big-leaguers be morons while spittin' chew. We should also sue NBC for having shows about murder.

The above was sarcasm.

The ball/strike stays up as far as I've seen. The pitch SPEED blinks on.

I have never seen a missed pitch, but I have at several times seen commercials interrupted to catch the first pitch. There is an average amount of time that it takes between innings, so they cram as many commercials in as possible because, believe it or not, they are in the business of making money. If they make the switch a little faster, they'll interrupt the commercial.

"Killer habit"? Are you a former writer for 'HDH? Wait, if you were that would be "Hazardous Habit". You are completely ignorant to the fact that people can make their own decisions, and for all that kids know, they are spitting sunflower seed juice. I never hear Rem-Dog saying "Thats a mighty nice Skoal chew that Manny has."

If you think a lawyer should sue NESN/Red Sox because players chew, please move. Move away. Leave. You are a hazard to society.

Perhaps, living inside the tight confines of a radio has affected your mental accuity.

You are making the obvious your own conclusion if you think you are the only one who discovered that NESN is a commercial venture. My comments were to the fact that NESN was coming "late" on first pitches too many times and that the endless interviews by "Mr. Cellophane" ( cf. 'Chicago' ) are to blame as well for missing part of the game. I really don't need to see some Bozo with some allegedly hand written sign hyping NESN. They are all plants and I don't mean potted plants although 'pot' may have a great deal to do with their on-air behavior.

As to the "chew factor". You should check this out with former ball player and color commentator, Joe Garagiola. He was the one who complained about the spitting of tobacco and how that impresses kids. As he said, you could get cancer of the foot there was so much tobacco spit in the Red Sox dugout.

Finally, while I may not agree with it, it does not take much to imagine some lawyer coming up with this novel law suit against NESN and the Red Sox as well as the American and National Baseball Leagues. It would easily fit into the "attractive nuisance" provision in the law which allows individuals to sue someone who maintains or publicizes a building in dangerous condition, a pool that is not secured , or here a cancer causing agent such as chew tobacco.

I would advise you to come out from inside that radio for your own mental and physical health.... ;-)

Parklane:

It just so happens that I am a radio-transplant. I started and still dabble in television. I have been onair at NECN, produced programming for WB and Fox Sports Net, and most of my roladex are television contacts, not radio.

That being said, its acuity. Not accuity.

There are several times that NESN cuts back to the game JUST AS the first pitch is being pitched. Who cares. Do you wanna see him warm up? You'll see the "first pitch" after commercial a minimum of 18 times a game. NESN has sales people who have clients who pay for airtime. They are not going to dump a :30 commercial so they can be :25 early into the inning. If they can fit that last commercial in there, you're damn right they'll get it in.

And by the way, EVERY self-promoting commercial is a gimmick. 'HDH has the Today in New England spots. They are ALL gimmicks. Your "pot" joke was sophomoric.

I continue.

Just because you saw a report on the Fox 25 Morning News...it doesn't mean you have to use the "cancer of the foot" line like you work with Dana Farber.

And any lawyer who wants to take NESN on for showing players spitting should take on NBC for Law and Order, MTV for sex drugs and violence, every news outlet for explaining how one person was raped or another was dismembered, Toshiba for making the TV you can watch the programs on...I will give every dime I have to Tom Werner so he has something to eat while he laughs at the lawsuit.

Parklane. Mercury. There is a reason you aren't a lawyer.

I'm going to step back into my little radio box here, sheltered and uneducated...but do me a favor, if you want to use big words, run a spellcheck first.

Hey, Guy In The Radio! Guess you can't keep a job and with that major chip on your shoulder I can see why.

Look, I can get "personnel" "personal" to ( too ). Just want to sea if you are paying atention... see.

I never thought of myself as a sports fanatic but I do like to have the actual feel that I am at the game and NESN seems to be taking that away with all the unecessary interuption and too many commercials.

Your knock on Dana Farber was cruel. They, along with the Jimmy Fund, have saved thousands of lives and idiotic remarks like yours are not appreciated. Chewing tobacco causes cancer. Plain and simple. Whether ball players want to be role models they are. By the way, I also feel it is wrong for CVS to sell cigarettes at the front of the store and prescription drugs at the back to treat some of the diseases caused by smoking. Talk about a conflict of interest even though the sale of cigarettes is entirely legal. Legal yes; moral no.

As to "sophomoric" humor - it is far better than having no humor at all. You sir or madam seem to be humor impaired. As to 'HDH you have the wrong person here if you think I am going to defend that tabloid station.

P.S. Noticed how much NECN has improved. Was that after you left.

Enough. This is stupid. Truce ?

Hey Parklane, I'm gonna second everything GUY IN THE RADIO says - WHY ? Cause he's right..your the one who is wrong, who has free time on his hands who sits around with his plants all day caring about NESN showing Players with chewing tobacco...

What a life man..what a life...

Lets take them to court...Pity on you..

Wow...

And I thought Jessica Simpson was dumb..

The count is up there. Secondly, it anything the speed is a little more interesting, because they don't say how fast it is all the time, yet most fans will know the count if they are paying attention, let alone it being mentioned several times for each at bat.

Parklane. Ya killin' me.

I have two jobs in the industry because OF my sense of humor. I'm just calling your humor poor. LOL

Where do you work? OK.

You try to put the blame on NESN...it is the same with every station that airs a game out there. ESPN. Fox. UPN38. Its all the same. And there is a reason NESN is one of the best regional sports networks out there...because they do what they do well!!

Also, that wasn't a knock on Dana Farber. Thats a knock on you. I've worked with Dana Farber on video productions. I have a friend who is getting treatment from them, and another who runs the marathons for them.

For you to use the "get cancer of the foot" in a sarcastic way is kinda crappy...seeing as if cancer was such a joke, everyone would be laughing down the street from Fenway. It's not.

Cigarettes are by far my biggest turnoff. Every person who smokes should go through shock therapy. It completely disgusts me. Same with any player who chews...but guess what. Its legal, and even the dumbest lawyer wouldn't even think about it.

NECN has grown in leaps and bounds since I was on-air there. I was also SIXTEEN when I was on-air there. I keep my jobs whenever possible. It is placing those jobs, parklane, that is the challenge. Have you placed a job? Or do you only surf this page and various others saying stupid things to get a rise outta people.

I'm a funny kid. I just cant stand stupid people. You have been here as "parklane", "Mercury" and probably a few other names...and so far I really havent seen one post that hasnt been constructive. You'll respond to this with a "well you just aren't witty" or "i sorrrry you kant smiel at my joeks"...and thats fine.

There are two types of people who read this site. Those who have jobs, and those who dont have one or lost theirs. I know where you place. Grow up.

Truce.

Guess we will have to disagree here "Radio".
I am sure you have an accomplished background in both radio and television.
My musings are just my opinion. NESN does a better job than FOX by far in covering the Red Sox although I it is my opinion that TV 38 is better than both.
The interuptions in the coverage of a game use to be predictable and now they are not. Commercials are a necessary evil but I believe that most major league teams have an agreement with the stations for certain timed breaks and all the action is stopped during a commercial. It is that way in the NFL. Now, it seems that agreement is being violated either by the Red Sox or NESN or both.

As to Joe Garagiola statement on chewing tobacco in baseball I think his comments are valid. You think chewing tobacco is good for you? If you saw the 20 year old kid on with Garagiola this morning and saw how his face had been disfigured by cancer of the lips and cheek you might have been as alarmed as I was. In fact, I think it is a far worse evil than steroid use in the long run and that baseball will have to address this problem soon.

If you think some lawyer won't sue everyone across the board on a chew tobacco cancer case, think again. You must remember that a lawyer sued MacDonald's because MacDonald's hot coffee spilled on her as she was driving and she WON a significant judgment against them. In the law they call it "the deep pockets theory". You go after the person or companies with "deep pockets."

In conclusion, can we stop the personal attacks. I responded in kind to show you how easy it is to respond in kind but it serves no purpose. I raised some legitimate issues; challenge the issues if you like but don't attack my credibility.

Peace and love.

From the person who said NECN got better from my leaving...personal attacks are not something you should cry foul about.

I'm not 100% positive...but I am about 99.7% positive that UPN38 pays NESN to broadcast the game with their logo plastered about. Same director. Same equipment. UPN might get back to the commercials faster because they have more commercial avails, however I have seen several times where they cut into a commercial to show the first pitch.

So UPN and NESN are the same. Fox sucks...out-of-towner announcers. No fun.

Nonetheless, there is a difference between Mickey D's and NESN. Someone got severely burned by their coffee. NESN doesn't advertise what it is they are spitting, nor do they endorse it. They are merely covering the game. And ya know what, if the person at the drivethru didnt put the lid on tight enough, and it burnt me, id be pissed too.

Chewing tobacco causes cancer. Disfigures people. I know this. SHOWING chewing tobacco doesn't.

Finally, there may be a rule for "timed inning breaks", but I'll tell ya now, it isnt enforced. You can only average it out. Every once and a while, they'll get on the field a little sooner. Thats life. Who cares.

Again, personal attacks are not why I am here. But you haven't made a credible point yet.

- Chewing Tobacco is bad. We know.
- NESN should be sued for showing people using it? You're kidding.
- NESN doesnt keep the pitchcount up long enough. It is up continuously.
- I don't know about television. Wrong.
- You didn't respond in kind, you insulted me.
- You spelled acuity wrong.
- You spelled McDonald's wrong.

I'm trying to make a joke here. I can only fight with facts. In my opinion, most sane people would laugh at suing NESN. Otherwise, the rest is incorrect. Flat out. I'm just having a strong debate with you. Please come here with facts if you would like to continue further...otherwise, peace, love, and bubble gum.

At least we agree about Fox. Sorry about McDonald's.
Maybe if I went there more often I would spell it correctly....
Not exactly my idea of food but that's another topic.
Only semi-fast food restaurant I like is Bertucci's.

I hope you realize my "attack" on NECN getting better
when you left was not a serious remark.
I was trying to demonstrate how easy it is for someone
to go for the throat. That doesn't accomplish anything.
Please accept my apology if you took it seriously.
I would have no facts to make such a judgment nor you about me.

Finally, I am not saying that I agree
with the idea of suing NESN over chew tobacco
but noting only that in this
litigious society anything is quite possible.

Should have mentioned in the previous posts
that I think Remy and Orsino (sp?) are
fun to listen to.
Or if you are part of the grammar police:
... I think listening to Remy and Orsino is fun.
( No sentence should end with a preposition.)
Remy is properly irreverent and jaded.
It is a wonder the Sox allow him
to speak as honestly as he does.

Watch the bubble gum.
I am sure there is something unhealthy about that too.
:)
Peace
