were Stern and Limbaugh ever on the same station, or was such a move ever knowingly considered by any station but didn't happen?

Aside from perhaps a random situation like this, I'm pretty sure Stern and Rush have never shared an affiliate.

The biggest hurdle to this is that Stern eschews AM stations if at all possible. He's on a "hot talk" AM in the Reno market, and a sports AM in Grand Rapids, but neither of those stations carry Rush. His brief stint on AM in Chicago - before landing on WCKG - was on an Infinity-owned syndicated hot talk dumping ground, with no Rush.

On the other side, Rush is almost always on AM, except for a couple of traditional-style talk FMs, mostly in smaller southern markets ("SuperTalk Mississippi" and the like)...markets where Stern wouldn't even have a chance of airing on ANY station.

Stern was on several AMs in markets where he went on to success on FMs, like in Chicago. Boston rings a bell, IIRC?

...Stern was on AM in Chicago twice -- first on WLUP, where he literally sank the station's ratings beyond the point of no return, and _then_ on WJJD, when it was a hot talker and Infinity was in the process of buying WCKG (which I seem to recall had actually carried him earlier but the then-owners didn't stay with him). The WLUP cancellation brought one of Stern's nastiest on-air comments of all time, wishing Larry Wert a case of AIDS that he would pass on to his children. There's NO bloody excuse for that one...

...FWIW, I'm pretty sure that WJJD was the only AM to run Stern and Leykis at the same time...<P ID="signature">______________

As far as I remember, but I could be wrong, Stern has never been on AM in Boston...I only recall him being on in that market on rocker WBCN.

I also don't recall a lot of "first AMs" for him.

As a rule, Stern doesn't like to be on AM. He put up with it in Chicago because it got him on in market #3, until Infinity launched FM talker WCKG. He put up with it in Houston, where he's currently on daytime CNN news outlet KIKK/650, because it's the only top 10 market he's never entered otherwise. And he was on a strong sports station, WQAM/560, in Miami...until Beasley dumped him recently.

Markets like Reno and Grand Rapids aren't large enough for him to worry about one way or the other, and he's out the door in a month and change, anyway.

Stern generally has debuted on FM in a market, the above exceptions aside.

You may be right.

A few other AMs that have aired him...

WWKB/Buffalo (now on WBUF-F)
KROD/El Paso
KGME/Phoenix (moved to then-partial-market KEDJ-F, now on KZON)
WJFK/Baltimore
WCCC/Hartford

And an interesting list you have, here:

> WWKB/Buffalo (now on WBUF-F)

I didn't know Stern was on WWKB. I do remember that WW1's Don & Mike were on that station, and they also eventually moved to 92.9 FM in that station's brief stab at a full talk format. Stern remains at WBUF-FM, surrounded by "JACK FM", until 12/16.

> KROD/El Paso

Hadn't heard of this one.

> KZON)

Wow, I didn't know he was once on AM in your market! This is the former 550 AM version of the sportstalk format, before they swapped with KFYI?

> WJFK/Baltimore

One of Stern's longest lasting AM affiliates. Stern, and the aforementioned Don & Mike, are now both on FM in the market now, on the talk/alt rock combo which picked up the old WHFS calls.

> WCCC/Hartford

Was Stern on this AM as an affiliate? I seem to recall he worked there as a local jock before going to NYC...
