Randy Bauman and the WDVE Morning Show

Yes.

Must be something in the water. I knew all those tailings from the now-defunct steel mills would catch up with us
sooner or later.

Would anyone be shocked to see Randy surface as the new morning show on the X, with Benz moved to a sports show (either replacing Eilis on 104.7, or middays on the X, and possibly teamed again with Joe Bendel in either of those scenarios)?

Clear Channel is set to default on their loan payments sometime this spring. Heck they are only how many billions in debt by now. This is just another way for them to try to make the books look a little better. First Ellis Cannon now Randy Bauman this is only the start. Not even WDVE the Clear Channel mothership of Pittsburgh is safe. So the question of the day is when will the fire sell begain???

I'd be shocked. Why would they potentially take more DVE listeners elsewhere?

What CC does in some respects depends on whether the Pirates' contract obligates them to run sports programming as the lead-in on 104.7.

Even if it does, they might just make do with Rocco and Greg Linelli. But I could also see Benz taking over that slot.

Beyond that, if the X becomes more sports oriented the tradeoff might be to alter DVE musically. I heard Green Day's "Know The Enemy" there a few days ago...

And then the question arises as to who benefits from the disenfranchised female listeners in the B-Star shuffle. Kiss will pick up some at the low end, but beyond that CC's most female leaning property is 3WS. DVE does disproportionally well in females but the available listeners probably aren't going there. So you could see DVE's music get younger and 3WS become even more of a classic rock station (if they are just concerned about X listeners), or they could soften up 3WS and push rock listeners to DVE from both directions.

So believe it or not, the awful Q might be a winner here.

How can Ellis go right to 93.7? Wouldn't he have a noncompete?

There might be a difference, in that he was let go, as opposed to leaving on his own.

Randy didn't leave on his own. So, the theory of him surfacing on the X morning show is just that and will not happen.

Parttimer, I think you're suggestion of 3WS going softer is a bit off mark. 3WS will pick up the soccermoms who wanted their Star. If they were smart at 3ws, they'd just keep playing the hits that they are.

I also don't see how Q is the winner of anything. Their ratings were far less than that of WISH.

Took a listen to Q this afternoon and it seems they have totally bailed on the "Hot" sound they made a point to announce a while back....

Beginning around 3:50....
Owl City- Fireflies
Mariah Carey- Hero
Toto- Rosanna
Maroon 5- Wont Go Home Without You
Hour ID
Michael McDonald- Aint No Mountain High Enough
(Actually 1 minute of this song, then the computer vaulted them into the middle of a spot cluster)
Hour ID (again)
The Fray- Over My Head
Bryan Adams- Everything I Do
Natasha Bedingfield- Unwritten
Aerosmith- Don't Wanna Miss a Thing
Colbie Calliat- Fallin'
Don Henley- Boys of Summer (great song but odd fit)
Kelly Clarkson- A Moment Like This
one more song which escapes me, then a spot break
Carrie Underwood- Before He Cheats

So they're almost totally back to what they were doing when they started this mess.... guess they won't be gaining anything after all....

And people wonder why terrestrial radio is in trouble.

Yeah, this is totally getting away from the "sleepy songs that the other station plays." **sarcasm**

Raymond, I was talking about Ellis not Randy, but if you have more Randy info, please share with the group.

Corporate, I was responding to db's response to you..

There might be a difference, in that he was let go, as opposed to leaving on his own.

This seemed to me to suggest that db said Ellis was let go, as leaving on his own. Randy did not leave on his own accord. His contract was not renewed. So, Ellis was let go, and Randy did not leave on his own.

Raymond is correct, I was referring to Ellis, only. To expand: I'm not privy to the details of talent contracts, but it would seem that the details of Ellis' non-compete might be different under different circumstances. If he (Ellis) leaves of his own accord, the non-compete applies; if he (Ellis) is let go (as was the case), the non-compete might not apply (or could conceivably be of shorter duration).

And of course, there could be various "out-clauses", on both sides; the contract could be structured as a series of one year (or other length) contracts, with renewal only if both sides agree; etc. Ellis is a lawyer, I'm sure he wouldn't have signed anything too onerous, but then he probably really wanted the opportunity to have his own daily show.
