RANDY KABRICH

Here's the thing: All Access continues to quote him as gadfly number one when it comes to PPM. I have no idea what gives him the credentials to be the "authority" on "in tabs", "sample size", and such. I can't even find a website for his business and the AA business directory draws a blank on him. Here's what I know about Kabrich:

1) Used to be Mason Dixon's PD in Tampa; got run over by the Pig
2) Was involved in a slight altercation with a PD from WWDB in Philly (Beasley) back in May of '99. Cops were called. No charges filed.
3) Has apparently done some consulting work with Cox.
4) Still lives in the Tampa area
5) May or may not have had legal problems pertaining to a Miss Linda Ronstadt back in the day (anyone hear that rumor?)

So, what is it that makes this guy such a guru that he can write nasty letters to Saga and throw down in All Access like he's God? What do you know about RK?

You need to do a little more research on who Kabrich is. Like his associate Bob Neil, he gets PPM.

Well, DE, that's kind of the point of the thread. Again, he has no company website to go to, so why don't you enlighten me?

Neither did Howard Hughes or the A-Team.

I asked years ago that my name be taken out of the directories - too many people contacted me that I would never have time to work for. The people who I want to work with know how to contact me.

As to your questions:

1) As everyone of the managers of Edens Broadcasting have said in retrospect (and relayed to me by third parties), when asked what they would have done differently, they note they would have listened to Randy Kabrich. Furthermore, Randy Michaels was the first person who tried to hire me for Jacor's station in Denver after I left Q105, when they would not let me fight the battle I wanted to fight. I had a plan that totally would shut down the Pig - but they would not let me execute it. Even Scott Shannon who said there was nothing that could have been done, upon hearing the details of the plan, said it was genius and would have worked.

2) I did exactly what I was hired to do there. Read between the lines

3) Yes

4) Correct

5) No idea what you are speaking of

Saga and others on the Arbitron Radio Advisory Board are small market broadcasters who do not have a stake in PPM. The few major companies in the RAC (with the exception of CBS) want PPM rollout halted until MRC accrediation. The small market broadcasters think its "neat" and "gee-whiz". They want full steam ahead without understanding the significance of what PPM means if done wrong.

Perhaps you should do your homework (as the editors of the aforementioned trades have done) and find out how PPM will really make an impact on your life if you are in a Top 50 market - or in the future if you hope to get there.

Then you will understand why this has to be right.

Then you should question why Arbitron in their client letter (that was also posted by the aforementioned trades) had INCORRECT figures in them. If Arbitron cannot get their facts and figures right in their client letter this morning, you really want to give them a pass?

Just remember, when most of us went to school, a 70 was 1 point above an F or a D------.

To Arbitron, a 70 is "we met our benchmark".

Oh, come on, uncle Randy

you can't tease us with the secret plan to kill the pig and not tell us. COME ON! WHAT WAS IT?

OK, Uncle Randy, I'll give you that one: Having Arbitron say your stations (in Philly) suck so much that no one listens anymore was complete Bravo Sierra.

Interesting as the Country Station has never been higher in the ratings P25-54 and the CHR is #1 18-34 in June PPM.

But thanks for you kind comments that have no basis in reality.

I can tell you all about Kabrich. I and Wilson Thomas gave him his first radio job at WSML in Graham, NC. In only 2 weeks he jimmied the phones and completely blew out the system.

The man lives breathes and eats radio. Never been married that I have ever heard, never cooked a meal in his life, doubt he knows what the inside of a refrigerator looks like. He has no life beyond radio. A major pain in the ass, make a bull in a china shop look like a cotton ball in a bowling ball factory. BUT; he knows how to program, and is loyal to his friends. He's never done drugs, I doubt if he's even ever smoked a joint. Linda Ronstadt? Wouldn't doubt it. He's got steel balls, that's the part that makes him a pain in the ass. he's not afraid to do anything or to pick up the phone and call anyone for anything.

Gave me a job in Durham when I needed a part-time gig, and I'll never forget it. Like him of not, he knows what he's doing, to the detriment of everything else most people deem valuable.

A strange dude for sure, but he's a great guy...

I honestly can't believe that someone who is "in the industry" wouldn't know who Randy Kabrich is, or even worse, disrespect him like that. Did the thread starter even make a score of 70 in his research on Randy? I think not. Therefore, he's ineligible to even work for Arbitron!

Respect is a two way street. If one deserves respect; one should show respect.
