Randy Michaels Dusting Off The Old Playbook

W

War Of Attrition

Guest
Randy Michaels former head of Clear Channel and Jacor is pulling out his old radio playback, but this time for his new TV company Local TV, LLC.

Apparently, KWQC a competitor of his WQAD in the Quad Cities borrowed some aerial footage and Local TV caught them in the act. WQAD then ran promos ripping the competition on air. You can see that video here: http://www.localtvllc.com/pressroom/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/wqadpromo.wmv

Of coarse, in addition to the promo, the company also issues a press release on it's website. To anyone familiar with radio over the last 20 years knows this kind of thing is classic Jacor.

What do you all think? Good? Bad? Refreshing?

I guess it depends on how WQAD came by the footage. If KWQC offered use of it, then ran the promo, I'd say it was a sucker punch. And WQAD was a real sucker. If WQAD "appropriated" the footage, then it serves them right for such a boneheaded move.

Either way, channel 6 doesn't look good.

Coincidence, purely.

Randy is a Radio guy, not a TV guy. Whole different ball game. He may own the TV station but I highly doubt he's calling the shots.

I doubt Ed Ansin does either, but his company owns two highly successful stations in two of the largest markets in America (WHDH 7 in Boston & WSVN 7 in Miami).

Anybody around here think that he might decide to go after the FOX O&Os on the chopping block? I think it's plausible....

Cheers :D
